Not really versitile, apparantly he's shit at right back, too slow for right mid but can play centre mid quite well and sounds like Boland/Strachan.

I must be a negative bastid too as apart from Antwi (who I reckon will be the mutts nutts) the other signings give cause for concern. Im sure there must be lots of other folk who feel the same.

Im prepared to give Danny the benefit of the doubt for the time being tho, I will trust his judgement. rolf

Did the name Joel Porter scare anyone before he'd actually played any games for us?
Or Ben Clark?
Or Andy Monkhouse?
etc etc etc
Its wait and see time man. He tried for Duffy. Duffy didnt want to come. No doubt he'll have tried for others and been unsuccessful too, thats football. I'm sure he's done the best he could with the resources he had and taking into account where footballers actually want to go.
The glass isnt half empty with you mate. Its fucking smashed on the floor and the alcohols been lost down the drain.

The whole idea of a discussion board is to discuss peoples thoughts. It isn't about being negative for the sake of it. had we signed Daryl Duffy I don't think anyone would of had anything but enthusiasm. We do have to wait and see how good these signings are but not many of them will entice people to part with 15 quid for pre season games......

If we signed Duffy, I'd have been negative as he doesn't want to play for us unless he said he desperate to play for us...

Anyhow, answers to the questions...
Did Joel Porter scare you?
Yes, he'd scored 6 in 4 for Australia before hand.

Did Ben Clarke scare you?
Yes, he was rated very highly and captain of England under 21s.

Did Andy Monkhouse scare you?
Yes, he decent reputation.

Anyhow, I see your point. At the end of the day the likes of Dimi, Westy, Barron, Robertson came to the club with small reputations and made a name for themselves.

Where as others such as Proctor came with big reputations and did shite.

So for now I'll reserve my judgement until I see them during pre-season, I'll then make a realistic judgement then.

I've learned to never expect anything.Good or bad. You just never know how any signing is going to turn out. I only hope that we will do well this season, and let's see what happens. Mid-table will be ok after our last season in this League under Scott. At least Wilson has a clue on the game, unlike Scott, so that we have a fighting chance. I am cautiously optimistic that every time we send a side out this season, the overall team will be greater than the sum of its individual parts. I would like to think we'll be like our first season in League One last time out - no big stars but a team fighting for every ball and playing some good stuff collectively.

Fook me, never did I think i'd see the day that I would read this reaction to Pools signing someone of the pedigree of Ian Moore. He's a good player, look at where he has played. Look at the money THREE clubs have paid for him.

He might not be an out and out goalscorer (he has played out wide a lot I believe) but the last last pre season after we went up we where signing the likes of Paul Robinson and Andy Jordan. Neither with anywhere near the amount of games at a high level than Moore.

Some of you need to get a serious fooking grip

Morons.

I'd like to ask 'Tree' who you would have signed for Pools as you seem a real expert?

You know fook all about our signings, Danny Wilson does, get behind them and they may turn out alright..

I mean being such an expert you'd have been over the moon with the signing of Gary Liddle last season? and over joyed at the capture of Andy Monkhouse!? Oh of course you where. You probably had a go at the Wilson appointment the day he got the job.

Give them a chance.

As for you Jonny, and your comments about Moore on Uncovered rage You aren't a glass half full type of bloke are you?

I have no idea, but if Danny Wilson doesn't think he will its a fairly pointless signing.

He's been good enough to make starting line ups over 300 times for clubs who where playing at a higher level than Hartlepool United ever have.

PJ - I like to think I say it like it is. The signing of Moore does not massively inspire me. I think that we have enough in the squad to get a reasonably comfortable mid table finish (even before his signing) but to be pushing for play offs then we need to be signing really special players not cast offs. There is only McCummie as far as I'm aware who has been offered a contract by his existing club - that we have signed.

Yes and No.

I think he'll be cover for Richie Barker and when Barker needs a rest, Moore is of a similar mould (ok he doesn't score a similar ratio of goals).

So yes he'll get in our starting line-up but only as cover for Barker...which is good cause Barker is in his 30s, it's unrealistic for us to expect him to play every game next season and he'll need a breather.

At a guess...but I'm not the manager.

What would inspire you Jonny?

We already have a lot of good players at the club, thats why we finished 2nd last season. We have signed players who have all (baring Lee-Barrett) played at, at least the level we are going up to. Asking for 'really special players' is naive and just plain unrealistic. IOR plough a fortune into this club and I bet a few of the signings will be on a fair whack, its about time some started being more patient and gratefull.

You don't seem prepered to wait and see.

This season ticket thing is a bit misleading though isn't it.

People claim that sales are down on last year?

Big wow.

I've not bought mine yet. Nor have any of the guys who I go to the match with. We're all going to but there is no incentive to have bought it yet so we'll get them in the next few weeks. I'm sure others will too.

As for "inspiring" signings? What exactly do people expect?

What do I think people expect?

I think that people expect (and hope) to see a winning team.

I think that the players DW has brought in this summer, coupled with who we already had on the books, will provide a winning team. The biggest difference between this promotion and the last one is the quality of the players already at the club.

I also think that it is good to encourage more kids to attend matches with cheaper season tickets for them. Get them in now and keep em when they're older. It worked with us lot.

And I bloody hope that they are all in the Town End. I don't want the little bleeders getting in our way on the Mill House Terrace!

I'd agree that there's none of the signings that are of the Cartwheel variety and they're not going to persuade people to buy season tickets, however I don't think it's as bad as some seem to think. Moore for example has plenty of experience, and while he may not have scored for fun he must have done something right to have played over 300 games, mostly at Championship level. Budtz was considered by Wolves to be worth taking on an emergency loan to play in the same league last year; Lee-Barrett was used as backup by Coventry. McCunnie may have been booed by Dunfermline fans, but there were others more supportive of him - and let's face it, the fans don't always get it right. I seem to recall a certain Steve Howard getting a lot of stick while at Pools up until just before he left us - wonder what happened to him eh? We've been short at full-back for ages, and we've signed Elliott who is a genuine full-back with plenty of experience, if a bit long in the tooth.

Whether any or all of the signings are a success remains to be seen, but they're worth a chance rather than simply being dismissed as not good enough. I hope that if some of those criticised on here prove to be key players next season that the critics remember this thread and will be big enough to admit they were wrong....

im trying hard not to get too down about the signings.

antwi is an excellent signing and will give much needed cover at centre half.

elliott provides cover as well. particularly with monkhouse likely to be suspended for half the season.

i dont see how anyone can knock either of the keepers yet as they cant have seen them.

however the signing of ian moore baffles me. i cannot see for the life of me that he is any better than effion, who was settled here, or boyd, who at least has an excellent goalscoring pedigree. the fact that clubs have paid money for him in the past is completely fookin irrelevant. someone has just paid 5 million for chopra ffs. he will get his opportunity with me but i can understand the frustration of fans who were led to believe that we would be getting duffy and instead find wilson signing a bloke in his 30's who couldnt get in leeds team.

i suspect we will be getting more of the same with danny wilson this season. a defensively strong side happy to grind out results with a safety first approach. that should be enough to stave off relegation fears, but im not sure it will put bums on seats at 20 quid a game.

whatever anyones feelings on the signings wilson has earned the right to make his choices, and should be given backing.

I agree that the increase in season ticket prices will mean that some people are unable to afford them who would otherwise have done so. What I can't understand is how any season ticket holder could refuse to renew for non-financial reasons.

The 24% increase is a good reason not to renew even if you can afford it. Its a rip off.

If it's a rip off but still cheaper than paying match by match on the gate I take it you won't be attending any home games this coming season then you whining old fart?

There it is, right there. Without the manager being able to assess a broken squad, see what was needed and bring in the players he judged capable of making the difference, we would not have been promoted.

If theres' one signing that ought to permanently take the wind out of the sails of anyone doubting Wilson's judgement, it has to be Monky.
"Who?" and "Why are we getting players fit for other clubs?" were some of the more positive reactions to his capture.

So what if it just so happens that Wilson has signed six more Monkhouses this close season?

If it was then I'd still buy a season ticket cos I'd be saving £140 over the season.

If you'd rather just pick and choose which games you feel like attending then that is your prerogative.

Who said anything, anywhere, about not attending games?

Once again you arent reading what was posted

Are you going to go to all of the home games?

If so then it is cheaper to buy a season ticket.

If not, then you are picking and choosing your games.

I consider £350 to be worth every penny to be able to stand up on a good old fashioned terrace and watch Pools. It's god craic standing up on an old fashioned terrace watching Pools. I enjoy it. I would pay double the money it currently costs and more if it meant not being forced into an all-seater situation where you lose all trace of atmosphere and fun.

I think my comments above would sum up my personal feelings about value for money sitting down watching a footie match, especially at Pools.

Lads, this is like reading rivals FFS, thats why I left. Lets not turn this board into the same 'slagging' matches. The average person on here seems to have a few concerns about the signings, some more than others, lets just leave it at that.

The signings could have been worse, could have been better methinks, therefore its not the end of the world. Lets just trust Danny for now and judge the players after a few months.
