Errmmmm.......it's not very negative but I reckon with Brown and Monkhouse knocking balls in to Moore and Barker, we're going to tear up some defenses.

Mind they'll probably miss.........

Phew......

Yes. The Taxman. This week I have spent about an hour and a half going through a form on Working Families Tax Credit, having to get details of all interest paid to us, my pension contributions, the works, only to then discover that because we're just below the threshold they set we don't actually have to tell them anything.

I have then had to fill in my Self Assessment form, complete with extra pages which mean I can't file online (not that they tell you that until you're almost done) so that I can get taxed on something I earned 12 months ago. I actually phoned them last year and said look, got this, need to pay tax on it, what do I need to do and was told to basically phone them the following year. What's wrong with them? Here I am, saying I've got some money I need to give you, and they say no, you need to keep hold of it all for another year and then fill in the sort of form that has you wanting to punch the wall in frustration due to the pettiness of what its asking for. Such as Gross Interest received from your bank accounts - divided up if joint accounts; Charitable Donations that Gift Aid has been claimed on - who keeps that sort of record, particularly when that can include a trip to Chester Zoo for example? And of course you can now guarantee that despite this year being one where all I will get will be done through PAYE, I'll still have to fill in the same stupid form next year.

Maybe I should ask if I can offset part of the tax bill against my expenses for the time spent in filling the flaming thing in.
