For me giving someone a rating of 4 after bing involved in an away win was too harsh. So let’s decide a fair ratings system;

1: sent off in first 15 mins: subbed in first 15: otherwise shouldn’t be on the pitch. Nil commitment, multiple errors leading to goal being conceded and scores an og: fighting with team mates: gives ball away continually; won’t jump for the ball and turns back on challenges.
2: sent off in first half: subbed in first half; multiple errors leading to goals conceded: shows some flair by scoring 3 OG’s; gives ball away mostly otherwise passes backwards and puts others under pressure. Won’t jump for the ball.
3: generally piss poor performance; lack of commitment in the tackle; gives the ball away to opposition almost every time he gets it; passes sideways and backwards putting teammates under pressure; goalie poor game and punches ball in to own net;
4: missing for long periods of the game; weak in the tackle; multiple errors leading to opposition pressure or goals; passes sideways and finds a team mate once in a blue moon. Hits first defender with every shot, clearance corner or free kick; keeper let’s ball go under him.
5: bang average performance; for every positive there’s a negative and there is a cheer when he is subbed; keeper gives the ball away and distribution is awful.
6: marginally above average; shows some positive aspects to play which outweigh the negatives; defends well enough and jumps to challenge for the ball; reasonable distribution and a couple of decent saves from the keeper.
7; good performance; wins challenges; uses ball well; scores or assists; keeper saves pen or multiple saves; lifts crowd; goal line clearance;
8; great game; wants the ball; wins the ball; uses and distributes well; scores or wins pen; multiple assists; keeper saves pen or multiple saves; keeper catches crosses well;
9; tremendous game; mom level performance; does everything right; scores two; wins a penalty; multiple assists; keeper saves pen or multiple saves and sets up goal; goal line clearance;
10; outstanding game as per 9 but there is just that something extra; it could just be exceptional skill; it could be getting an opponent sent off; lifting the crowd with bursts of energy and speed; scoring a hat trick or an exceptional last minute winner; a defender getting a hat trick; a keeper saves two pens or save/ goal if a lifetime whether you meant it or not.

Generally speaking you shouldn’t get less than a 5 if the team win. This scoring system is compulsory for all Poolie match reports to the end of the season

I still think Scott Harrison would make a good go of getting under 5 in a team win based on your system

I agree. Although I agree with the , a player should never get less than 5 if you win, in principle, it is possible to score under 5, if for example your team won 4-3 someone like Harrison was to blame for the first 2 goals you conceded, then he went on to get sent off, the other team scored a 3rd and you had to whether a storm in closing stages of the game. That scenario would surely warrant a rating of less than 5.

This is all a bit too complicated for me.

I want to see grudges in the scoring, you know, giving those players you don't like a 6 even though they've been outstanding.

That's the spirit Mr Father. Usually followed with 'put a shift in'.

Chip for Hawkins: 10 - does loads behind the scenes that you never see
Loughlin for Rodney: 0 - Scored a hat trick but just doesn't look like a footballer because he has big thighs

No that’s fair enough that is. Footballers lull you in to a false sense of security though and then loose you down. I should’nt have any expectations having watched in the 80’s. That was canny bad. It didn’t seem to matter though. You still go. Mind you there was nowt else to do in the town in them days. Highlight of the year was Christmas at the pictures. Before it shut down. There’s lots of competition for everyone’s time these days but real life is best. Hurry up Jeff. Mind you I wouldnt announce the takeover until The season is over now. Honeymoon period can star next season then rather than half a dozen games of Shan.
