I don't know the local area that well, but gather this area has a past bad reputation.

We are looking to move from the main road in and out of Bishop Cuthbert because it is now too noisy and busy.
And want a quieter location. As a side note I don't actually mind BC although I know some don't like it and we would consider a quieter location within the estate or moving across to Clavering.

But anyway, OH wanted a look at the Persimmon "Marine Point" houses, but I was not that fussed.
First impression, not good. Chalk graffiti on the new walls around the cemetery, and a shopping trolley left.
Houses themselves nothing special as you would expect.
But I loved the view from the some of plots. And I thought it had the potential of being a nice peaceful scenic area to live in.
But do you think the stigma of what is used to be will remain and it will always be a target for local yobs?

Honest opinions please...

I reckon once it's full it will become a traffic nightmare, the houses look nice enough mind.

Another worry I'd have is that there's been heavy industry on that site for as long as I've been alive, how strong is the ground? Could there be subsidence in the near future?

Also, don't think it would be too peaceful when a 50 carriage freight train comes screeching past the bottom of your garden.

Thanks for reply. Yeah, we were only looking at the plots that back onto the sea/dune area to avoid the noise from the rail, but I'm sure we would still hear it.

As said the houses look very nice, my concern would be the location in the first place, would imagine it to be pretty bleak in the winter, with the salt air doing immeasurable damage to cars and exterior of house. As the previous poster mentions the development is sandwiched between some of the more poorer parts of the down and the associated problems that stem from that. I would imagine in time as the estate develops and there are as many of you as them, things could improve, but in the interim there could be lots of anti social issues to contend with.

IMO all houses are over priced so no change there, as for the environment, don't know if that will be a problem, but the old Steetley works was one of the most toxic places on earth , so who knows what the future will bring.

They did originally call the development Steetley Point, I've got one of the old road signs from it in my bedroom. Then someone suggested it was probably a daft idea referencing the Steetley and they took them all down and re-named it Marine Point.

The Steetley was the best bit of the town, I absolutely loved it when they abandoned the factory and you could just go up there and wander round. Absolute death trap of course, but brilliant all the same. I was nearly in tears when they dynamited the chimney.

It's safe to say that nobody in their right mind who went up there when it was the Steetley would even remotely consider buying a house there, because they know what sits underneath it.

My thoughts exactly, looking down the coast from Blackhall towards that chimney was a part of my life, look north and you could see the headgear of 4 colleries as well, fookin ell ,the coastline is like West Wales now, with no trace of industry, of course take a closer look at the beach and all is not what it seems.

I used to love having a mooch around the site after it closed as well, would of made a great film local for a James Bond fillum, ( Iraqi WMD factory maybe )

My old man worked at Steetley for a couple years and said it was the dirtiest job he had ever done, caustic and toxic, and this from a coal miner of 30 years, said the pay was shi*e anarl.

Alan Partridge narrating by the sounds of it, quite interesting.

Cheers for the views.
Seems like a no-go at the moment.
Shame as I did like those sea views.
