Who will be responsible for doing the retained List.
As a new manager will most probably come in after the players contracts expire.
What a mess.
Coxall Goldberg OUT.

Strange not to have appointed a coach in that set up.

I suppose the logic is they are three who know the dressing room and who the other players trust - but it's another head scratcher.

Look on the positive side, it can`t get any worse and with the Lord willing we thump Cheltenham, Newport lose at Carlisle because they play on grass and Donny already tipsy with promotion

Last thing they need with 2 games to go is another new coach to complicate things. They know what is needed just get out and do it!

I can only see this as a positive, Jones seemed devoid of interest from the start right up to the finish. The likes of Bates et Al will have a better chance of motivating the players for the next 2 Cup Finals.

Was Jones pushed or did he Jump?

Agreed.

Had to be someone that knows the player etc. Surprised by Bates mind but surely the players will now react and give a performance?

Be nice to see 2 up top and go for it. Wonder if he will pick himself? sctatchinghead

He said in his interview he would carry on fighting etc so I imagine and hope he was pushed. Coxall was there so it must have been obvious to even him that the players were not playing for Jones. Least the good thing about him never signing a contract was that we could get shot of him easily?

I dont even know what the two assistants names were but glad they have gone too.

He needed a contraption designed by Stannah to lower him into and get out of the dugout so I doubt he jumped, mind pushing him would be more than a one man job as well.

It was our only hope left given the circumstances, still probably too late. I just hope if they do pull it off, they don't get given the job on the strength of 2 good results, and the whole comical farce that has been HUFC of the last 7 years starts yet again in 2017/18, with us being in this predicament again this time next year., with every manager been worse than the last one. I for one want a new manager who wears a suit not a tramp like Hignett and Jones, at least Colin Cooper , although he was probably the worst manager in our history imo, looked the part.

He was put down behind one of those white screen things at Port Vale in the FA Cup and his remains were packed off to the Glue Factory.

It's plausible because I've not seen him since, have you?

I appreciate there is no way a new manager would be brought in with 2 games left, no knowledge of what division we'll be in etc etc but I'm disappointed Sam Collins wasn't asked to come back for a few weeks and see how it goes with a view to being offered the job permanently.

Knows the squad, excellent caretaker record and the players are clearly happy to work for him.

Happy Jones is gone as this definitely gives us the best chance of survival although being brutally honest, I can't see it.

Our next managerial appointment is absolutely crucial as we really could go one way or the other as a club over the coming months. Sam Collins has been at the club throughout a massively unsuccessful period I'm not really bothered if this current set of players respond to him as I hope the next two weeks will be the last we see of the vast majority of them.

If York go down and we do I'd look at someone like Gary Mills who knows the level inside out and has had a good degree of success at it. Or even try and tempt John Still north.

He was caretaker at Donny for a while, after a good career their, but think his non existent contribution to Pools since he came, apart from a few decent games early on, wouldn't make him a popular candidate

Mills is a good shout, but our situation goes way beyond the appointment of a good manager. All good managers have a good support mechanism behind them, to be fair to our previous 4 or 5 managers, although they weren't the best, the club was in a state of flux, with little in the way of support or financial backing from above.

I can't be arsed getting excited about, talking about or even speculating about who the next manager is because with the current regime it doesn't really matter (as has been said above and on other threads already many times).

Without a clean out from the top of the club to the bottom we are buggered and may well be anyway based on the debt we are now saddled with and our equal owners probably not willing to part without a nice big fat personal sweetener for themselves

A club would any ambition would be pushing the boat out and attempting to attract a manager from a club above us, who is bang on form, from one of the few clubs we could possibly say we had a bit more about us than them, someone like Keith Hill of Rochdale perhaps. The fact this wont happen tells you everything about the predicament the club are in.

We will end up appointing the usual chancer or improver as we have done in the recent past, Jones was the exception in that respect, but that appointment on paper, was just too good to be true, for me just something didn't look right from the start

The problem is with the Chairman and his non existent directors.

I think the priorities handed to Jones were
1. cut costs
2. survive
3. change squad for next season

We will never know what he would have achieved on 3 having fallen on 2.

Surely though Splod, Jones wouldn't of taken the job with a remit such as that, if he did he must of been pretty desperate for the cash, as some believe he was. Had he achieved 1 and 2, how could he of changed squad for the better, having a 6 months earlier been told to cut costs, were was the money suddenly going to appear from?, I'm assuming like , he would of needed money to have improved the squad, wouldn't of had Jones down as someone who could sow a silk purse from a sows ear, to the extent of the overhaul that would of been required, in terms of bringing in a dozen or so players on free transfers and improving squad at same time.

Truth is we'll never know how much of a drain on finances Goldberg really was. Next season we would have been planning to keep most of the season ticket and league money. Plus this season's squad was pretty large by League 2 standards. Jones obviously didn't rate many of the players who wouldn't/couldn't play to his orders. So maybe the instruction was to sort the club out in the summer but it went tits up before he got there. As you say maybe Jones was desperate and there weren't any other offers coming in.

Supposedly he had been offered the job weeks before Hignett was sacked, the delay between the offer and acceptance I'm led to believe was the Chesterfield job ecomimg available and him going for that. Hardly the most committed start to proceedings and hat was before #buttygatescruffygetpressunveiling
