I heard about a scheme somewhere of supplying food banks. Why not designate a match where you can, if you want, bring a tin and the food bank can collect them at the turnstiles.
Just a thought like.

Are these the same food banks where some people using them openly admit it's just to save money for their beer, fags and nightclubs?

I think I'll pass on donating to that.

Not deliberately trying to be negative ( I think it's a good idea), but will the H&S Gestapo allow football fans to carry full cans to a match? Dangerous weapons etc?

The food could be collected before going through the turnstiles, though, Bishop. Good idea, Snowy.

Mr Ripper, I think most food banks give you the bare minimum of beans and pasta type stuff to last you three days. I doubt anyone using them saves enough for a packet of fags, let alone entry to a night club.

So the ones on the telly and in the papers where people were coming out with bags full of top quality gear must have been staged then.

Nah, the press never do things like that.

The same ones who light a fag when they leave and open a beer when they get in!

I know there are a lot of people who live on the breadline, but the tv shows don`t help when they seem to chain smoke, drink lager and are covered in tattoos!(not having a go at tats, mean the cost!)

I've no idea what you've seen in the media, but I've seen food banks in the flesh. They contain packets and cans of food that people have donated, all of it staple food such as beans, pasta, cereals, cans of tuna, corned beef and the like, most of it 'Economy' brands.

If people are coming out with 'bagsfull' it's because they have proved they have children to feed as well as themselves.

I believe most people who go to a food bank do it because they're desperate. I don't agree with them either Mr Bresslaw, a country of this size and wealth should be able to feed its unfortunates, even when they don't help themselves.

I don't think either by the way that we should be giving aid to countries that can afford its own space program.

People have to be referred to a food bank by a person in a relevant professional position and issued with a voucher for very basic provisions .So the idea that any lazy bounder can just turn up unannounced and walk out with some foie gras is ridiculous.
Also it's worth mentioning that a large proportion of the reported millions who've used food banks in the last few years are in work, but still in poverty.
Mind it's worth saying that what a man watches on channel 4 and reads in the Daily Mail is obviously gospel truth and should be trusted completely.

Spot on Yossarian

people can only access Foodbank 3 times in a six month period unless they truly have exceptional circumstances this is to stop them coming dependant on the FOODBANK.

Also anyones income can drop through no fault of there own ie a death in the family (main breadwinner) or through sudden illness, delays in benefits etc i could go on.

Please dont take notice of things like benefit street where they give them booze and fags so they will act up.

I challenge anyone to do a taster shift at the Foodbank and it would change your mind/open you eyes.

Anyway its a great idea and i wish the Trust and those who have organised it al the best.

I used to think like that, but for the past four years I encounter these people through my job daily. Don't believe all the crap that's spouted. Anyone living the life of Riley on benefits must have a supplementary income.
Believe me, it can happen to anyone, even you. You're only six weeks away from disaster when the wage stops.... As someone once told me.
