a month ago I asked the council via a freedom of information request if anyone had enquired about buying or leasing the land around the vic and today they replied. They say no requests have been made

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/land_adjacent_to_victoria_park_f

I know some on here 'knew' this already but figured an official response was worthwhile

I'd had exactly that verbally but well done for getting it in writing. Very quickly actually to be fair to HBC.

So Coxall hasnt even enquired about buying or leasing the land but has taken out loans with regard to building on it?

To expand a little, I asked if there were any discussions by either JPNG or Pools on purchasing of the ground or aquiring any land. The answer was no.

Would this cover "off the record" conversations?

Same as the previous question, I'm not dismissing this, but it's a bit open ended. Does the answer mean nothing has been put in writing, or nothing at all?

Meetings can happen, discussions can take place surely, but I would have thought the FOI deals with written approaches only.

An informal approach would still have to be logged.

140 characters says you're wrong. It's just enough to say "amateur detectives," "bump in the road" and "wait for my big February announcement."

Are dreams covered by Freedom of Information? Maybe Gary dreamed that he'd had these discussions and it was all so realistic that he's steamed ahead with his plans for glory thinking that he's done all the spade work required.

This is exactly why taking our finance agreements doesn't make any sense, as Chip says you would acquire finance when everything is ready to go. Surely they could have provisionally agreed a finance deal and once they have got the OK from the council then finance would commence. I can't see the reasoning behind taking a loan out when it's not being used for anything.

Chris, you are an intelligent guy, but you really should stop believing all this guff posted elsewhere about GC being in daily contact/meetings with the Council. The council have repeatedly said it is not true, and it hasn't happened. You now have it in black and white.

Lets for arguments sake, accept there have been off the record discussions taking place in January. Just casual hypothetical discussions.

Surely you would do this BEFORE taking out a series of loans, and not 3 months after doing it.

You take out loans and pay interest when you are ready to go, as you want to be paying interest for as short a time as possible. You also search around for the best loan deal and take your time to get the best possible terms and conditions. You certainly don't go to a loan company nobody has ever heard of, and bypass the banks, because as Coxhall himself stated, they can sort everything out within 3 days.

Does the fact the Wonga loan was taken out at precisely the same time as the club was issued with a winding up petition from HMRC not even remotely start to ring alarm bells, given GC said he needed the money ASAP ?
Of course Mark, the loans prior to an agreement are alarming. Was merely trying to get the bigger picture

The only think that's keeping hope alive for me is that he would have to have conned two finance companies and a very experienced football manager as well as the fans. Usually such things get easier to believe as time goes on, such as compos story about Dave Jones, but this particular story just gets less believable.

Even if we can an announcement saying they are going to build houses/flats/shops/hotels around the ground, would anyone that can engage their brain really think that that was a mind blowing announcement?

I would think those investing had actually gone mad and should be sectioned.

Have a look around. A town centre full of greggs/poundshops/empty unts.

Other retail estates with more empty units than you could shake a stick at.

Even the last remaining DIY place has fucked off away from this ghost town.

Nobody comes here on holiday, there are no major businesses, so what would be the point of a hotel?

A hotel that looks out onto Raby Road? Give me strength.

I am beginning to think I live in a town full of zombies.

Confused.

Colonel you're confusing old plans with the new ones. Coxall, as far I'm aware, has only mentioned houses and some retail. I think the hotel was mentioned under IORs pipedream. Your point still stands however as the last thing Hartlepool needs is empty shops.

The FACT a winding up petition was issued at the same time last year, could just be pure coincidence, but it does at least provide an explanation as to why money was needed and needed quickly.

This was everyones suspicion at the time and can be the only real reason. If he just came out and said so there would be no issue. sctatchinghead

Why isn't he pushing Thomas out the door, would his transfer fee cover the costs of the loan/s?

The transfer window doesn't close till tomorrow night, plenty of time for a cheeky little bid from the likes of Swindon to be trousered.

Unless Coxall pulls of an IOR style transfer, selling Thomas last minute so it can't be reinvested.

I would still be interested to know why a debt that big had been run up so quickly, and yet the club was still operating with FFP. Especially as Mr Goldberg seemed to vanish off the face of the Earth at the same time.

Seems a lot of coincidences at the same time as a hole in the finances appeared.

May have answered your own question there.

Just how small is Compo? I can't help but imagine he's like that grandad in my pocket kids show and sneaks into secret Pools meetings to find out the hot news.

Wouldn't trust the man as far as I can throw him (Goldberg, not Compo), and I reckon Coxall has the same opinion now, too.
