Got a Spelt artisan loaf from the Urban bakery in Low Fell today, a right hippy joint but fantastic bread, had a torchon ham and cave aged cheese sandwich just now with a smackerel of bacon jam on, oh my days, a taste sensation clappp

What is torchon ham?

Makes me think of torsion, and twisted testicles.

Dunno, but you can buy it in Aldi, don't have to fart about trekking up to 'the Urban bakery in Low Fell' like our resident foodie, split personality and milk lover.

The bread was from Low fell and it was only because the wife babysat her brothers kid the night before, ham from Aldi, cheese from M&S and the bacon jam is feckin awesome, 2.50 for a jar no bigger than your bollocks from Tesco, they do Chorizo jam also.

Jambon au torchon = Tea towel ham.

I know that doesn't help like.

Think it is ham that is aged in a muslin bag. They sell the bags in the DIY and gardening shops round our way but i find killing pigs and preserving their thighs is best left to the professionals. No idea what the bag adds to the normal hanging process though. Why aging your cheese in a cave is a good thing is beyond me.

When it comes to ham, Jamon Iberico is the absolute nads. The French know this although they'll never admit it.

It literally melts in the mouth.

That might be a good thing for someone whose teeth had dropped out, I suppose.........?

Added bonus. I was using the word literally literally by the way.

The guy serving me had a beard, thick baggy jumper, orange cords and coloured DM`s, his associate had a thick baggy orange jumper, braids and when I asked how far the Isle of Man is, she said, "far out man"!
The shop inside is just a counter, 4 tea chests with hessian sacks thrown over and a table where the woman was working.
The love is free but the bread costs 2.20 a loaf :o

As Senor Monty says, the ham from the black pig cannot be bettered.

How bizarre.

To be fair referencing somebody in the title of a thread to make sure they don't read is a bit like phoning someone when you don't want to speak to them.

The fact you started it and the subject was 'intriguingly' bread is more than enough to ensure I would have stayed well clear.

Back on track doesn't Iberico Ham have it's taste due to the wandering Pigs diet, as they freely forage beneath the Trees? Some nut I think they prefer, but I may be confusing the issue!

As an aside I am currently drinking some Strong French Coffee. It's really good and flavoursome.

Well, I went to the House of Trembling Madness yesterday, a pub place in York that MadJohn once told me about. I had a lunch there with lots of artisan ham and pie and bread, but from Yorkshire. It didn't melt in the mouth as such, tho I suppose the cider did.

By the way, good exhibition on at York Art Gallery.

My Spanish brother in law brings all kinds back when he visits home. He once got some sausages which were made from pigs that had grazed predominantly on acorns. Fucking lush they were.
