To be fair, if he'd said that was a shite win, it would have been all the same to me.

Well, in the short term at least.

As he says in the piece Jones came in at half time and said you need to manage the game second half now. Despite a few scares I thought we did that better than we have been all season...

I don't think they overly threatened the first time they hit the bar was a very good strike out of nothing the second one they really should have scored from the rebound which might have made things nervy for ten minutes but it would have been daylight robbery had they got anything from the game we were by far better football team. We have looked the better football team in most home games this season to be fair, but today we were prepared to be a bit more direct more inclined to have a pop at goal and played at much better tempo. We still passed it well though. Hignett didn't sign many bad footballers we have had far worse squads than this.

I think for maybe ten-fifteen minutes at the start of the half we weren't quite playing with the same control. Once we settled I thought we were pretty comfortable.

It was more of a reference to the current squad not being as bad as our league position suggests than specifically who he actually signed and that someone else can get more from the players available. He didn't sign many bad players either, when was the last time we has two full backs as good as today?

Maybe he's done a bit better in training in the last few weeks because last Saturday Hignett's last act as Pools manager was to put him on as sub for his first League appearance of the season. He didn't even get on the bench for the first tin pot cup game earlier in the season. Maybe his mate Harrison getting his act together has spurred him on a bit?

Or more likely Hignett wasn't the manager we thought he was and the players were responding to the change positively .
