I couldnt cope with the embarrasment from the abuse that the Milhouse Terrace would direct their way.

But would they be better players like the bloke that came sixth in a walking race said????

Makes sense that you'd play better if you were relaxed and happy with life. Can't help to make you feel part of a team or to focus fully on sport if you're constantly covering things up and worrying about what you say or who might see you when you're out.

Best line of that article is:

"Football is the one that stands out. If it changes, it will be the game-changer." Would never have thought changing the game would be game-changer without that input.

Whilst I agree that you would be more relaxed and happy with life if your open and honest, how long would this take? I imagine the media attention would be immense and therefore the pressure on the guy equally as immense and cancel out that "relaxed and happy with life" for a long, long period? Probably a high chance his form would suffer and would end up being pulled out of the starting line up for his own benefit etc.

Will take a strong character to be the first. Fair play to them when it happens.

Seems like in most sports nowadays everybody expects a backlash but the positive response outweighs the negative and pretty soon it becomes a non-issue. Might be tough for a little while on whoever goes first but the long term gain would probably be worth it.

I agree, probably best if a few came out together to be honest.

I'm not gay but if I come out as gay it will free 1% of my mind, which will turn me from being a good footballer to a great one? If then I got rid of women, bills etc then I would be the bestest sportsman ever!!!

You aren't a good footballer though Bishop. Be honest, you'd have to admit to all manner of depravities, including a vast range of animals, just to reach average in a kickabout in the park level.

If a player came out there'd no doubt be mindless idiots who give them abuse or make wisecracks and they'd have to bend over and take it.

As soon as a player admits to batting for the other team the person under the most pressure would be the manager.

The player loses form so gets dropped. THe outcry would be incredible. He was dropped because he was gay etc

And then he gets released and again its because he is gay.

He then does a double page article in the sun. pictured wearing leather shorts a dog collar and german army hat.........like marc almond.......claiming he is just a normal bloke.

Clubs pay players extra to pretend to be gay to get round the rules.

But it seems its some Gay group that is trying to force people to come out. I doubt the individuals appreciate it.

And I would love to know where they get the information from telling them at x number of players are gay.

That would only work if gayness were spread evenly through the population, though. I'd bet that there's a larger percentage of gay people in theatre and the arts, say, than in the population as a whole, or in football in particular.

Anyway, yeah, this whole thing is ridiculous.

The pressure would be overwhelming, because being the first one to put their head out of the trench will be the target for the snipers.
It'll take time and changing attitudes and don't forget footy fans are notorious for finding what they consider a weak point to be exploited.

Like grabec says this claim that one in ten footballers must be gay is ridiculous.

Unless they think only 1 in ten actors are gay. Or one in ten haidressers. Or male nurses.

They are trying to make an example out of football as its our national sport but they are just deluded.

Even if ten prmiership players were outed it would represent no more than 3 percent. If that.

People shouldn't feel pressured to 'come out' it's up to them at the end of the day it's your private life if you want that to remain that then that is completely your choice and nobodies business who doesn't actually know you. I couldn't give a fuck personally it has no relevance to the sport and the team that indivual plays for. Forcing people to come out seems more of a backward step to me, it's making an issue out of something that isn't one.
