The great singer songwriter author and poet has passed away.
He did a Bowieesque and told of his impending death as he said in his title song I'm ready my lord and in another I'm leaving the table I'm out of the game.
RIP Mr Cohen

Even though I only knew a few of his songs, the feller was a lyrical genius. Another true great gone.

He left many fine poems and songs. But very sad he's gone.

one of his previous muse Marianne was near death(So Long Marianne) he found out and sent a touching letter. He basically said if you reach out you can touch my hand and we will be together again. A decent human being passed away today

Yet another singer songwriter I'm sorry to see go. The longer he went on, the more mellow he got. Dance Me to the End of Love is sheer beauty.

So long Leonard.

Excellent songwriter, poet, novelist - bit of a mystery how he got passed over for a Nobel Prize for Literature for some bloke called Zimmerman.

As someone else said, Dylan got the Nobel for being Dylan. There's no analysing it further.

I've been looking through my Leonard Cohen poetry books. Even when very young he was already writing perfect poems. Most of my favourites are too long to post, but I like this short one.

As the mist leaves no scar
on the dark green hill,
so my body leaves no scar
on you, nor ever will.

When wind and hawk encounter,
what remains to keep?
So you and I encounter,
then turn, then fall asleep.

As many nights endure
without a moon or star,
so will we endure
when one is gone or far.

I only got into his music 12 yrs ago when I was going thru a period of depression. Here was a bloke who suffered too, I found his music strange but uplifting.

Yes, the music is uplifting.
Trying to describe how it works is difficult... but somehow it does and says exactly the right thing.

I'm glad of these 2 posts as this is the effect his music had on me at certain times in my life.

RIP a great lyricist and poet.
