Simple answer, don't take advantage of a girl who may not be in a fit state to make a sensible decision.

Rape is the most under-reported violent crime in existence. Even when the victim does report it the chances of a successful prosecution is small. Officially, one in an hundred rapes ends in a successful prosecutuion. If you rape someone there is a one in a hundred chance of getting convicted. Which means the evidence has to be absolutely overwhelming.

Evans is a rapist, it's a simple fact. Tried and found guilty. Anyone defending him is a grade one 'lovely lovely person'.

Not sure anyone is defending him - there is obviously other aspects and considerations that haven't been made public that saw him sent down.

I think the case has received loads of attention because McDonald was found not guilty yet CE guilty which seems a little strange based on the information that has been released in the media....

He will probably end up somewhere like Wakefield (as stated earlier), or one of the other high security prisons. As for the hope that he gets the same done to him in prison - well, people state that a lot when someone gets sent down but I don't think it actually happens that much at all to be honest. Main Location prisoners despise sex offenders but they're kept apart for their own safety. Sex offender wings can be violent but on the whole they're quieter and don't have the violence of the main location wings, or the growing problems between muslims and whites.
He'll be out in two and a half years as long as he gets on with things, and that seems like a very small time for a rape to me. As for the idea of rehabilitation inside prisons - I've worked in five or six and the thought with the vast majority of prisoners is that there is fuck all rehabilitation from the system, just ticking boxes like so many other jobs. If he really wants to understand and change then there's a good chance he might be able to, but don't expect the system to do it for him because it's shite and most people working and living 'inside' know it...

I don't believe for one minute LT is defending Evans. But what I find difficult to understand his stance of there more to it than we know, but that goes for every trial held in this country unless someone arguing one way or the other has been in the court for every day, in fact every second of the time that evidence is being given.

The girl in question is 19, that is a long time to live with this happening to her, maybe 60-70 years, and that could well affect her life, in fact not could but will and that must be some burden to live with. For that reason we should all have some sympathy with her.

Those who have named her on twitter(and I've not seen it) now face the possibility of being prosecuted themselves and if that happens to be another Sheffield United player so be it. By naming her they have committed a criminal offence no if's no but's they have. Now I will presume even if Evans is later cleared on appeal they will still be guilty, it is a criminal offence to name a rape victim (they have lifetime anonymity) and I believe that goes as far as naming any victim where the accused has got off.

So maybe all those big mouths who thought it clever to name her will now be wondering just how long they may be spending in jail. Or just how much it will cost them in fines and maybe losing their jobs and having to try and find another. So maybe we'll be seeing Sheffield United playing in the HMP League.

and there is another problem with the system.
as soon as a bloke is charged with rape or any sex offense he is named and shamed if he is later cleared he has still had the mud thrown at him and we all know it will stick.
any woman making false rape/sex claims remains anonymous now wheres the justice in that.
if a defendant is cleared of rape then the accuser should lose the right to anonimity.

I still think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye, and if an appeal goes ahead then maybe this will fill in the bits missing which would confirm for me whether the verdict was safe or not.

So what your saying is ALL verdicts are unsafe until all the bits are filled in for YOU. I hope the CPS have got your address and the postman can carry all the mail you'll be receiving from them, so they can send you details of every case carried out in Britain, or is it just the high profile one's you want details of.

No, I'm not.
This case has only come to my attention because of the publicity surrounding it, therefore there's a lot of material available to view.
I don't sympathise with either, though even if Evans is cleared at an appeal he's still not going to come out of this smelling of roses!!

He was convicted by a Jury of his peers as the law of the land dictates people should be.

There is evidence that the public are not in possession of and may never be. But what evidence is public paints a pretty damming picture.

The people who named the girl should be given more punishment than Evans, too many idiots think social networking puts them above the law.

Rape is a sickening crime, even more so when the perpetrator is a wealthy and fit 20 something bloke who could have pulled anyway or at the very least paid for it with some crack whore. But being a footballer he thinks that he is better than other people and is entitled to do what the fuck he likes.

Let the 'lovely lovely person' rot in jail and in the meantime lets hope the PFA change the rules on ex convicts as professional footballers.

I would be interested to hear what the judge said in summing up. From my vast experience of watching criminal dramas on tv they tend to give a jury a pretty good steer on matters and set out what crucial decisions the jury need to make on issues to arrive at a verdict.

Surely the most damning piece of evidence presented to the jury was actual footage of the attack which had been filmed on a mobile phone?

He's been found guilty, he's a rapist that is fairly clear cut to me.

Let's see Evans won't come out smelling of roses, I wonder why........

He joins mate in hotel room after getting text...saying "I've pulled a bird"

He deceives (lies to) receptionist to get key to his mates room

He watched a sex act

He leaves by emergency exit

He doesn't answer phone to girlfriend because he doesn't want her to know he's in the room

He's deceiving his girlfriend by being in the room (whether sex is consensual or not and jury said it wasn't consensual)

No he most certainly not coming out of it smelling of roses. And I wonder why

Agreed. The person who has lost out most in all of this is the receptionist he deceived.

It was only a matter of time before one of these knobheads who think a good way to end a top night out is to 'roast' a young girl while your mates stand round filming it, and wanking themselves off landed up in trouble.

The problem is Evans at the age of 19/20 is a handed a contract worth £18,000 a week. He thinks he's untouchable and basically he's better than people and can do what he likes. Here's some news Chedwynn, you can't!

Read the exerts of his police interview on his arrest how he could have 'any girl in the club' as he's 'rich'. Well that arrogant presumption has landed him in prison!

The sad thing is that broadly speaking he probably could have if they knew he was a footballer.

Having been out on the piss with mates that have been on the fringes of PL squads and some more established team mates of theirs the amount of fanny that comes their way on a night out is astonishing. I also know from this experience that it is perfectly possible for anyone who is clearly part of this group of footballers can punch well above their weight with the laydeeez

This was before camera phones and roasting was a popular activity, but it does show that resorting to sexual assault is the act of an animal who is bigger than his boots.

LT you need to read the Irish Listowel case, where friends jumped to the defence of a convicted rapist.

There will always be people who doubt the verdict regardless of the evidence. And in that case they had more evidence than you and I which proved he was a rapist yet the community turned against the victim. Accept the verdict and fact that most on here have done just that, and if the case is one of a miscarriage of Justice the system that failed will put it right.

Just checked on the Sheff Utd official site, and see that he has been taken off their list of players on the Player Profiles page. Has the club made any official statements about him?

Off topic.
Good luck to Bishop Auckland n Spennymoor in the FA Cup today.
Anyone of them in the First Round would be a cracking draw home or away.

No nowt gobshites?

The thread was posted four years ago when he had been sentenced to five years in prison for rape. He was a player playing the same division as Pools at the time so it was obviously going to be of interest. So people passing comment four years ago gives you the need to trawl through old posts to call people 'know nowt gobshites' yet you calling the girl involved whos identity has never been revealed a 'tart' is alright, and 100% true based on your extensive knowledge of her!? It sounds like a know nowt gobshite spouting off to me.....
