From one camera catching motorists on a 15 yard stretch of road. All used a bus lane in Newcastle that was not easy to see the warnings at night. Now the council has been ordered to pay back something in the region of £170,000.

Big bro really is watching you and if one camera can rake in that amount then it's only thin edge of wedge.

There's a dual carriageway near me which has been 40mph for years. For some reason it got changed to be a 30 limit a couple of years ago. It's not a dangerous road, it's well lit, and the likelihood of accidents is next to nil.

I know loads of people who got stung by it, people who never speed (our lass being one of them). I drove down it today and there's absolutely bare minimal signage for the speed limit ie one 30 sign before the roundabout you turn off from into it (off a 40 limit road). The speed camera warning sign appears after the speed camera.

The cynic in me would say that it is purely a money-making exercise, but I'm sure the council have simply got the interests of safety at heart.
