The touchscreen on my phone has been dodgy for the last couple of days, when swiping to unlock it had to try quite a few times. It's totally packed in, meaning I can't get into the phone at all. Any advice on how to get round it? Can't even turn it off as that command is confirmed through the touchscreen. I've taken the SIM out which restarts it, but it hasn't done anything. It's a Sony Experia M2.

Cheers. There's only one button I can press which is the power button. The home button is only activated as part of the screen when it's unlocked.

I found a tiny off switch next to the SIM card, but holding that in for ten seconds with the power button just switched it off.

Throw the phone in the bin and buy a new phone.

That's another thread closed.

To unfreeze my phone I generally take it out of the freezer and leave it to thaw for 40-50 minutes.

Volume up and power button usually does it on them ones, hold for 10s. Signing back in with your google account will get you most if not all of your data back.

If it's playing up though you're probably better off getting a new phone. I recommend the Z3 compact if you want something with good spec at a low price. If you want to go for premium the new Samsungs are on a different planet to anything else out there.

Thanks everybody. I did the restart thing and it started working again.

Then it froze again, and several restarts later it's still frozen. Proper fooked, as my gran probably used to say when I was out of earshot.

Can't access any contacts, calendar, old texts and stuff like that, which is a bit of a bugger.

Don't despair Mr PIN. Last fooked phone I had they put the old sim in the new phone and a combination of that and Google's sly storing of nearly everything meant that I got contacts and emails back. Can't remember if it worked for texts because i don't use them much but everything else was fine. I looked at the bloke in the shop like he was a magician but he seemed to think it was a routine thing.

Put it in a tub of rice for a week or so and it will be ok.
