Sad news that James Taylor has been forced to retire at 26 with a serious heart condition similar to that of Fabrice Muamba.

Seemed that he was beginning to realise his undoubted potential as a classy batsman. Was a brilliant close-in fielder too.

Sad news for someone so young to have to give up doing what they love. As someone not really interested in cricket, surely the sport is not fast paced enough to be overly concerned? I'm not on a wind up here, it's not as active as football or rugby for example.

Obviously doctors will have advised him and know more than I do.

A modern day batsman probably sprints as much if not more than a footballer would during a match especially during a long innings. Also in the field they are just as athletic as any other top level sport. You don't get many top level cricketers who aren't extremely fit these days. A lot of the cricket they play Internationally is in hot physically demanding climates as well. So seen as the lad has basically a ticking time bomb inside him it's unfortunately the only decision that could have been made. Really sad very good player who would have had a long England career, I saw him bat at Durham last year it's incredible how hard he hit the ball for such a tiny bloke it almost didn't look right! 26 and career over but at least it's been detected before something tragic happened.
