Do you like him or not? He's kind of addictive but what do you really think of him?

PS. I'm sure my cat overheard the sketch about Rod Liddle and the pappadom. Ever since that sketch, the cat's been slurping for hours over his cat bowl. I'm sure he didn't used to do that before he saw Stewart Lee...

The best bits of this series have been as good as anything he's done. The Islam episode was superb.

Not of the current serious but his routine in Glasgow where he called William Wallace a gay paedophile was inspired, hilarious and very very brave.

I'm on the yes side.

This has to be the most monumental analogy on the bunker, or perhaps even anywhere, EVER.

I ran into a guy yesterday (this is in remote Spain right?) who said he knew Hartlepool because he'd played the British Legion there. And the worst ever place he'd played was Townend Farm in Sun'land. I said what did you do like? He said "I was a comedian but I was as funny as a mass murder".
I think he was speaking for most comedians when he said that.

Went to Town End Farm Club in Sunderland a couple of years ago to watch a covers band from Sheffield, family and friends of son's girlfriend, it was a good night. It was pretty much typical North East working men's club, they appreciated a good act, the ex comedian you met must have been sh*te!

Seems like a few of us were at the City Hall gig.

The bit where the good and bad ghosts were making him appear to to go completely mad was weird but hypnotic!

Haven't seen that routine yet in the series.

Apparently Ian Hislop referred to Lee's role in this as 'curator', in scare quotes. Hislop's second favourite target group for satire contains all the people who are more alternative than he is! Hope you enjoy it.

I've decided that what makes me uneasy about Stewart Lee is the fact that he divides audiences into those who 'get' him and those who don't. That in turn moves on to the first lot feeling intellectually superior to the second...a situation that he's managed to create (and capitalise on)without originally being responsible for (maybe). I do admire his stuff but at the same time feel a bit manipulated.

I think 'culture blogs' are full of people who sneer at others who don't appreciate the things they do themselves. But in a way, Lee takes it a step further...eg the Robin Williams sketch that phil mentioned...he's effectively saying to these people..now that I've got you where I want, do you still think I'm funny now that I'm using the fact of someone's death to try for cheap laughs?

Lee somehow has it sewn up all ways at once.

I'd like to see him do an hour long show comprised purely of mother in law jokes. That would confound everyone.

I don't see any comedian as intellectually superior or otherwise. They just make me laugh or they don't. From an opposite perspective, I find one particular comedian as funny as piles. Chubby Brown definitely caters to the intellectually inferior.

Played many times at Town End Farm Club with the PK's back in the day. It was miles away from being the worst club in the North East...at least three others in Sunlan were worse.

"Play Dexys Or Die" was just one of the notes handed up to the stage at Red House Club in the same "City".

BTW, anyone who "curates" anything is a cvnt. HTH.

Why? It seems to be an accepted word nowadays for what Lee's doing here.

ps ......unless it's an Americanism. If it's an Americanism I'd agree with you.

It's not American at all - it's a term borrowed from the visual arts that sounds posher than programmer.

First time I remember hearing it in a pop culture context was also the Meltdown Festival but it's been standard Arts Council speak for a while now.

Oh well, if I'd known you were just being curmudgeonly I wouldn't have said anything. Everyone has the right to at least one grumpy comment a day.
