Nobody can get near Thomas, we have been missing this type of player for quite some time.

His pace is frightening, just 'strolls' past defenders.
Thought we were lucky with the penalty, from the video it looked like Walker was running away from goal and there was a covering defender but I will take it, it's about time some thing went for us.

He prevented a clear goal scoring opportunity. Definite penalty for me

I keep thinking about when we signed him Mansfield fans were saying he's very inconsistant and expecting his form to drop off. He seems to be as consistant as anyone else at this level so far and if he's full of confidence hopefully that will continue.
While Ronnie gets pelters for his tactics he did make some decent signings, maybe he didn't use them right but without him we could still be watching Flinders and Compton instead of Carson and Thomas.

Exactly! Nothing wrong with most of Moore's signings, he just couldn't get the best out of them.

He was heading straight for goal.As clear cut as you'll see.

Doesnt matter if he was heading towards goal or not or if there was covering defenders, he was fouled in the box so its a penalty. sctatchinghead

Agree.

Then again there's never any consistency on what's given or not given inside the box - Personally I think defenders are getting away with more murder than usual this year with holding, deliberate hand balls and jumping into people but refs are still over generous with penners when there's (alleged) tripping.

Corners and free kicks are such a free for all in the box its comical.

Even if the defender was covering Walker has gone around the keeper who was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity so by the letter of the law it's still a red card. It's one of the harsher rules in football but it's a clear red card and even clearer penalty. It was that obvious Trevor Kettle would have struggled not to give it.

What I don't get is that if you're the last man and you foul someone going past you who will have a one-on-one with the keeper, you get a red card. And rightly so, as you have denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.

But if you take it round the keeper (as Walker did) and are fouled, people start saying 'but there was a.covering defender'. So it's OK for a red.card when you've got a keeper to beat, but not when you've got a defender on the line who can't even use his hands to block a shot?

It is great to see us winning so many penners lately mind.

It's a bit odd that someone can deny a clear goalscoring opportunity by conceding a penalty. I'd be happy to see the keeper/defender stay on in those circumstances, with a yellow card and a penalty being sufficient punishment.

Hallelujah, I've been saying this for years John (okay maybe not on here....). A penalty and a sending off is 2 punishments for one crime, give a penalty goal if need be but keep players on the pitch. When this happens early in a game, the match is over as a spectical confised

I would even go as far as advocating not to have sendings off. Give 3, 4, 5 or 6 game bans after the game but keep all 11 players om the pitch. If people want to foul cynically, they'll soon get found out once they are given severe punishments afterwards.

The rule is changing from next season. A clear goalscoring chance in the box will only be a yellow, not a red. It will still be a red card outside the box for denying a clear goalscoring chance.

So someone kicks 7 bags out of your team, stops you scoring or cheats through out and then the next 3, 4, 5 or 6 teams benefit.

No, that's not such a great idea.

Think it through, one of those teams that benefit could be us. In reality, if punishments were more severe teams wouldn't cheat in the first place sctatchinghead
