Got a call from a mate last night begging me to do his pub quiz as I used to do it and the new guy has buggered off and he didnt want do it even though its bought in off blue tooth and you only need to change a few questions. I used to basically change it all as was a bit crap and some of the "conncetion questions" didnt work. Anyway got me thinking about some pub quiz's I have been to and some people miss the point entirely I went to one in Cambridge and I count myself as a having a good general knowledge but i could only answer about three questions. Surely the idea of a pub quiz is that everyone should get around 60% of the answers to keep them interested and the other 40% should be a bit harder.

I used to go to the Touchdown pub quiz on a Sunday with my dad and that was always rock hard. Are they still many round the town?

I used to do my own at the Smiths Arms, your right about questions being too hard, most of the teams were from the village and believe me there was more than 1 idiot, so tailored that even them could answer 1 or2 and feel good :)

The picture and music round also was popular, would throw in an obtuse song now and again, even then, 1 of the bastards knew it!

Yeah, they're no fun if they're either too hard or too easy.
But pub quizzes have made me realise I don't have a good general knowledge! Other people in our team always get more answers than I do, but on the other hand, I usually get a few points from knowing entirely random things that aren't general knowledge at all.

What I don't like is when the questions are loaded in favour of current pop and television things, that I know next to nothing about.

Been barred from more Pop Quizzes in the eighties than I care to remember.

Used to win the Steelworks Club every Friday night (when Tommy used to do it) and they barred me for only being 17 and "Not Drinking". Prize was £15 and used to see me over the weekend in those days. Once it was established that I actually WORKED at the Steelworks and had more right than 9/10ths of the people in there I was allowed back in and won it for another 6-8 weeks running before one Friday they played this ridiculous Instrumental (could have been anything) and everybody in the room seemed to get it right except me. When they gave the answer it was some made-up group and song title. Totally deliberate so that we dropped points. Never went back, moved onto the Camerons Club Saturday nights and Supporters Club Sunday nights to top up my earnings that way.

My uncle Stuart was the same, ended up doing the White House's music quiz for them cos they were that sick of him winning it all the time.

We go to the Hope & Anchor one every now n then and it's usually quite busy. The Park Inn have a decent one, came third few month ago on that.

I know Stu well! Another fellow Pop Quizzer from back in the day.

I remember one week in '83 when I was between contracts at British Steel I won £95.00 on Pop Quizzes in 5 days.

Highland Lad, Steelworks, Camerons, Supporters and The Clansman.

I only earned £94.00 a week at work!!!

I ended up running The Clansman and The Park Pop Quizzes, prizes were £10 vouchers for John The Cons!

I have a weird memory which means I can remember answers to general knowledge questions without knowing how I know, if that makes sense? I think I must subconsciously remember answers and they get stored away until the question comes up again.

I am the same PIN my mates say how do you know that and I honestly don't know how I just do. Another with that sort of memory is Mampi who is a demon to have on your pub quiz team.
