How would it fuck up the north east economy? Genuine inquiry not an argument.

Most of the money generated in the big clubs (tv etc) goes out of the area to owners and players who I doubt buy many lambourgini's and diamonds locally.

Game days will generate some local money on car parking, scran and beer around the towns but a pretty big proportion of that will still occur in the championship particularly at the bar codes where they will turn up in their hoards anyway.
I reckon the wage bill of the employees (apart from the playing staff) would not take that much of a hit.

Funnily enough I was talking to a pub landlord the other day, his pub is mainly Horse Racing so if Newcastle and Sunderland went down it wouldn't affect him. However as Bishop has its fair share of said fans he said a local pub would go bankrupt if the 2 went down. The reason this pub pays a fortune for Sky and BT to show the 2 North East teams, as a result makes good money when they are on telly and also those who go to the match meet up before and after. If they both go down Sky/BT will be pointless for the odd Friday night match and this Pub would lose the bulk of its custom.

It may be only one pub but as pubs are a dying industry then .......... how many in other local towns/cities in the area?

I reckon if (when) Newcastle go down it will boost the local economy in the Premier League teams only get about 2,800 tickets in the Championship I reckon a hotel room on a Saturday will be even harder than it is now.

Leeds have been complaining as their games have been live on most weeks throughout the season. Newcastle will probably get similar airing and so can't see the pubs struggling tbh. In fact, you'll still get the usual Saturday / Sunday crowds in for the live sky and by sport games plus extra for when they play (Monday / Thursday / Friday nights).

Boro have been on tele virtually every Friday in 2016. Newcastle and Sunderland will be ok sky practically every week if they go down, guaranteed.

The daft Geordies will still turn up. Boro fans are fickle. Newcastle lot would still up if they were on channel 1,2 and 3.

The attendances barely dropped after their relegation in 09.

I know this has been raised before but isn't there a decent floating sunderland support that comes to pools when they're not playing. I could cross check the attendances but can't be arsed bbolt

I cant see relegation affecting the area at all first of all four more games. Newcastle and Sunderland will be on the tv even more than they are now. Some of the clubs in championship have bigger away supports than quite a few premiership teams. Chances are they would probably win more games which would certainly keep the interest in the pubs of Hartlepool. Teams that get relegated from the conference are maybe forgotton about championship teams aren't. I'm sure the 100 million pound for relegation will help those teams with the loss of premiership football.

Chip, that figure of millions was Hodcroft economics. I wouldn't take it as gospel.

People will spend money on other things. Fewer people will come into the region but by the same token fewer will go out. 11 blokes living in posh houses isn't even a pin prick in the regional economy if such a thing even exists. I could go on but time is money so just put me in the "initial proposition is bullshit" camp.

That ginger midget we had on loan Adam Campbell last season who will never even make a fourth division footballer (after he's released by Notts County) was on £10,000 a week at Newcastle for over three years on the back of two appearances when he was 17. I suppose that puts a Premier League clubs wage bill into context, he wasn't even close to ever playing for the first team (probably as close as me and you) and he was on over half a million a quid a year.

Newcastle will only be out of the top flight for a year like last time, and I reckon Boro will go up. It would be funny as fook of they did and the other two went down!

Can I just say relegation is no more than the majority of the thick geordie fans deserve.

Just make sure the council board all the shops up and all horses are kept inside.

You could double the obscene amount of money these clubs get every year and they'd still effortlessly piss it up against the wall on average players.

I worked in Newcastle for too long. I find them either arrogant or thick as shit. Very few have a sense of reality.

I generally think mackems are far more down to earth and realistic.

I know sport radio stations have to talk about something to fill 24/7 but it was being suggested the other evening that the big northern premiership teams (particularly man ushited, Liverpoo, man shity) should have their training grounds and staff all based in London and just travel to their grounds for the 90 minutes of home games.

To pander to rich twats and wags to live in the posh bits with posh shops and posh nightclubs.

Unbelievable. I would imagine that would alienate even more fans,

I thought by 'footballer' Monty meant people with the talent and commitment needed to play football to a high standard. They haven't even got 11 if you look at it like that.

Whoa now, I never accused anybody of being a footballer when I said "11 blokes".

Sunderland and Boro are yo-yo clubs like Hull and Norwich. They'll be bouncing up and down for as long as the top league isn't a closed shop.

Like it or not, Newcastle have a loyal and fanatical fan base, most of whom will enjoy a season (or two) being big fish in a small pond once they get over the disappointment of going down.

I'd have money on them getting somebody like Nigel Walter Mitty Shithead in and coming back up pretty sharpish, once the show ponies have been cleared out. Mitrovic would be in his element in the Championship!
