Carlton Palmer on football am this morning, bit close to the knuckle slagging of Matt Le-tisser. I remember the time in 92 with him and Brian Honour having a run in. Wasn't he slagging off our ground and the quality of our players, then blamed Brian about reporting it to the press.

never liked the bloke.

Matt le Tissier was a footballer - Carlton Palmer wasn't.

Amazingly Carlton Palmer played for England.

The only time he should have been near an England shirt would be when he was shopping at JJB

Basically saying he only played for 1 club, he never proved himself at a bigger club, he also only got 6 caps for England compared to his 18.

Oh the old 'you're only a top player if you play for a big club' bollocks. You could argue it's the other way in that he did the business with a more average team around him. If you watched the highlights of Southampton's goals from his whole period he pretty much scores or assists all of them and the quality of both against all the top teams as well was sensational. I think one of the things that counted against him was that he wasn't fast or athletic but he more than made up for that in skill and brains.

The big club thing is the trap so many England managers have fallen into, continuously picking players from 'big' clubs and ignoring form players from smaller clubs. Mark Noble for example may not be a world beater but I would make a strong wager if he had been at Man Utd he'd have been in every squad for the last few years

Le Tiss was the best player in England for a good 3 years. Palmer was and still is a prick.

Having seen the video it's not bad really and fairly balanced. However I don't agree with MrB that what was said is bang on, you don't have to play for a big team to be a great player it's a concept that everyone seems to have bought into

he doesn't say he wasn't a great player, in fact he states he was. He said he didn't push himself to try himself at the pinnacle, which is true.

I pretty much agree with every point Carlton makes there.

Not sure what the problem is
