One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the minutes silence at the match on Sunday. It was noticeably impeccable. Not a cough, not a seat being clanked, no idiots coming in shouting. just complete silence.

Well done everyone.

I thought the observation of the minute's silence was impeccable and it made me proud to be a Poolie.

They were in possession of the silence for a larger percentage of the minute.

I was painting our front room with the match on, listened as the ref blew, the silence was indeed very impressive. There's usually something you can hear, but there was nowt.

The Orient jibe just made me remember Holloway's "analysis" at half time, basically saying Orient were completely all over us, and him referring to us as "they" when he said we'd got a "lifeline" with the penalty. I mean fair enough we did get a schooled a little and had little possession but we defended solidly and it wasn't as if they'd gone in 5-0 up. Seemed all a bit chumish to me, especially the way they kept referring to Jay Simpson as far too good to be in league 2. Then he goes and does f*ck all apart from skin someone in the second half.

Disappointing there wasnt a second minutes silence for the 2000 civilians killed by Boko Haram on Saturday.

I thought I was quite up to date with what's going on in the world by either watching the news or reading news websites a few times a day and I can honestly say I never heard about this till now.

I had heard of Boko Haram but just 5 ought they where some African bandits but after reading up on them they just as bad as there mates ISIS and it's reckoned they have killed more people than them

I finally got round, last night, to watching the new Adam Curtis documentary on iPlayer; 'Bitter Lake'. Don't bother watching if you think Chip's talking shite.

I've just watched that based on your recommendation. I think a lot of it probably went over my head, particularly the short clips they were playing between the dialogue. However, the last half an hour in particular was really enlightening, particularly the clip of the solder who had served in Afghanistan explaining how we had been used. Shame more people won't watch it.

Curtis routinely uses clips with little narration and leaves the viewer to make her own conclusion. I think that he intends that there is a degree of ambiguity in the message, so you can take what you will from the images. Indeed, it's hard to restrict meaning in images, and each viewer will take something different.

One of the simple things I enjoyed was to see the reality of Afghanistan as a country, outside of the limited media representations we usually see.

I found some of it quite breath-taking, and some of it incredibly irritating, but its one of the few things Ive seen thats fairly high profile and is critical of the links between the US and Saudi Arabia. The difference between what the US government says, and what it actually does, is quite staggering really.

I always say this, but there's often some good stuff in the London Review of Books. Patrick Cockburn is excellent.

"The French National Anthem, La Marseillaise, will be played ahead of all this weekend’s Premier League matches"

It is a bit OTT this isn't it?

Yes, but if you say so it proves you support ISIS.

It's been a bad enough week for the people of France without you translating your absolutely stinking patter into their language.

Come on Mr Butt, if you're going to call somebody names you have to 'tu' him. Using 'vous' suggests that although in your opinion he is a prick who stinks of shit you still accept that he is your superior.

David Icke being saying all this for years, granted his stuff about lizards is mad but you can't argue about his predictions about Middle East in last few years and how things since 9/11 have panned out

Given the presence of oil, the creation of Israel and the dubious nature of lots of the national boundaries drawn up by various imperial powers it isn't surprising that quite a lot of people beat Icke to it on the predicting bother front. The conspiracy theories, thinly veiled anti-semitism and lizards remain big problems for me.
