I bought the youngest a pair of school shoes with lights that flash when you walk. Does anyone know how to disable them? He won't stop stamping his feet to set them off, and he's either going to get a Parnaby-type recurring injury or go through the floorboards.

If they're Clark's they have a on/off press button on the inner side about half way along the shoe.

Only novelty shoes when I was a kid were Clarke's Commandos (animal footprints and had a compass in the heel) and George Best wipecleans which wiped clean because they were plastic. Wasn't allowed either and got smacked in the shoe department in Binns because I kept claiming that the only shoes that fitted were the ones endorsed by the wayward football genius.

Start wearing some yourself. No kid wants to wear what their dad wears

He knows about the button, and I was hoping there is some way of knacking the wiring or battery or something. They are Clarks, and seem quite robust.

Tell him the batteries are low and can not be replaced so he needs to limit their use to "special occasions" or summit.

He's 4, so when Shaun the Sheep comes on that counts as a special occasion.

Put them through the washing machine or in the sink full of water,
I used to work in instep in the town years ago and we used to sell the last year lights and someone once brought a pair back as the lights had stopped working after they had washed them in the machine

Sorry I can't add any words of wisdom to deal with the flashing lights, how are the floor boards holding up ? But Mr Toulouse has reminded me that I had a pair of those plastic Georgie Best shoes, must have been circa 71/72 ish, Black plastic with red soles with an outline of Georgie himself and for playing football in the street they were great as they were fairly indestructible even if a bit sweaty!

Way to go Mr T, that's them, "Strikers", whey hey! They look even better in that pic than I remember, vaguely recollect the silver buckets, they fell off fairly quickly (maybe helped a bit !) once the buckles had gone I was allowed to play footie in them. Ah they were brill (big smile on face here!) The original red sole shoes, Stylo should sue Christian Louboutin for trademark infringement, help pay for all the sweaty feet claims! :) Cheers Mr T, great memories of these. (PS. No not me in pic, I was never that neat and tidy aged 10)

Why not just let him enjoy the lights? As you say, he's 4!

The floorboards and/or his knee will snap if he keeps on doing it. Proper all-his-weight-down-the-leg stamping, like he plays for a Steve Evans side or something.
