It's all a question of context isn't it. The problem is some people don't take the time (or refuse to even) think before complaining and in many cases only succeed in getting people's backs up and encouraging BNP type reflexes.

Calling someone with curly ginger hair "golly" is hardly a racial slur, though to be fair I haven't ever heard anyone say it is one.

I facking love being ginger.

I think those that get offended by ginger name-calling in adulthood are soft, particularly given them having a trial by fire (quite literally) at school.

Reading stories about people in Newcastle bullying a family out of the house is pretty mad though... I mean really, on hair colour? The aggressors need their brains sorting out.

I would say it's along the same lines as racism though. It's still bullying someone for being different, with hair colour, like dark skin, having no effect on personality or personal ability. I don't think it'll ever be a prosecutable offence though, everybody hates gingers!

That news story sounded weird to me....something else must be behind it. I mean, how many red-heads have you known, and how many of them have been hounded out of their homes several times?

I am lucky I guess in that statistically I should have been a ginge, my dad being a Steve Davis lookalike, with loads of them on my mam's side as well.

Thankfully my sister took the genes, and is very proud of her curly red locks. Her twin boys were both born ginger, eyebrows and eyelashes too, but at a year old they have both turned proper blonde.

I have a soft spot for ginger people, whilst not being one of them I like to think I can feel their pain. I do get a ginger beard if I don't shave.

I think unless you are a big bastad like Ginger Poolie, life for ginger blokes must be quite hard. Our lass has loads of red in her family, so if/when I fertilise her the chances of a ginger son will be quite high. If so I will make sure he can box before he can walk.
