Sounds like we are doing well. A bit end to end but sounds like the better chances have fell to us. Bingham sounds a massive threat.

Is Billy Paynter the new Richie Barker? Two in two, nice one.

I've just read that Bobby Grant has come on for Fleetwood

Kind of got me thinking whether anyone can think of any other soap stars masquerading as footballers?

Back to back clean sheets! Mate at the game says Magnay and Bartlett were outstanding.

What Billy Paynter haters is this referring to?

I've not seen any. Just people who we're disappointed that fenwick looked like he would have to drop to the bench.

Well I sit corrected, Bartlett had an excellent game. No sign of any dodginess whatsoever. Excellent double save, got down to both really well :) Tipped one over the bar late on too.

Magnay really was quality and was my man of the match.

Bingham can do no wrong in my eyes but he missed an open goal tonight - their keeper went up for the corner, we cleared and he was through-ish after (I think) Woods found him on the right, their left back was making his way across to Bingham but he still had an open goal...he shot from 5-10 yards inside their half on the right but put it wide of the left post.

His pace had their full back regularly pooing his pants and he collected a yellow for pulling him back in the second half. Some fantastic touches from Bingham, he really could go a long way I reckon. Still can't believe Mansfield allowed him to leave.

There were a couple of periods where we kept the ball really well even whilst under pressure, quick, sharp passing. Quality.

Whilst they had a lot of the ball and looked dangerous occasionally, I think we deserved the win in the end if for nothing more than we appeared to want it more than them.

Well done lads and all the best to Ron and his daughter, hoping for a speedy recovery and Ron back for York.

Lucky to be there tonight. Pools outstanding v side who will be top half league one. Yes we had to withstand late pressure but we could have scored three or four. Paynter exceptional as were Magnay, Harrison , Fenwick . Not a single below par performance. But if Bartlett is our No 2 keeper, Trevor Carson must be Manuel Neuer. He was great. Please please a good draw now

Just had the misfortune of reading a Fleetwood forum for 5 minutes. Using words like 'embarrassing' that they lost to us. None of them had probably ever been to a Fleetwood game 10 years ago when 40 people used to watch them.

No doubt they'll end up where they started at some point when the money man moves on in the style of Rushden.

Great start to the season, really looking forward to our standard 1-0 defeat at York on Saturday now clappp

It was a great performance from us, I thought Magnay was man of the match again. I've got a feeling we will get the 3 points at York on saturday, happy days.

Was pleased to see we went same formation as just think it offers so much more going forward.

Maybe it could be to do with the missing/injured personnel, but it's great having 3 strikers who seemingly fit into the system. Magnay seems to be enjoying that holding midfield role and think the back 4 are way more comfortable with that than the wing backs system.

Roll on York, please let's put our horrendous record there behind us and get a win

Going by the first game and reports from last night, the amount of defending from the front, tracking back, last minute blocks and players putting their bodies on the line for the cause is impressive. Seems a pure determination in them and I presume very good fitness levels. Even on Twitter there seems to be a very good team spirit etc.

We needed a good start to get the momentum going and we have certainly got it.

It's a nice change from the usual tosh of offering players past their best new contracts, signing 38 year old has beens, zero communication from up top and when we do hear its just excuses regarding FFP. We have an experienced manager for a change who seems to be getting the best out of players. As chip says i'm not getting carried away but signs are very positive.

Did I read right on the OS in that Ian Mcguican assisted Sam Collins in the absence of RM last night.

Has he been involved with the back room staff for a while sctatchinghead I didn't even know he was still involved in the game.

we played some brilliant football last night like. we defended really well towards the end when we were under pressure but for the most part we were in the game as much as they were and you couldn't tell which team were from the higher league. i spoke to a couple of the home fans after the game and they were complimenting our style. there were a few spells when we played some class one touch football.

Bartlett MOTM for me. his double save was unreal. starting to think he should have been given the captaincy the way hes been screaming at the players. ronnies got a tough decision to make when carson is fit.

great to see paynter get a good reception last night. i was sceptical when we signed him, mainly due to his dodgy reputation and failure at carlisle, but im very happy to be proven wrong.

Yes, Ian McGuckin was assisting Big Sam last night apparently. He has been involved with Pools at youth level for a number of seasons I think.

yep, fitness levels seem to be impressive, which is good cos not many subs have been used. plus majority played most of pre season.

definitely a good team spirit as they are always commenting on it and tweeting each other etc

Are we getting communication? It might just be an impression but I don't recall hearing much from our new chairman since his Q&A.

Great video shared by Hartlepool Utd on Facebook of Paynters goal taken by someone behind the goal at Highbury.
