No, didn't find it funny at all

Those girls played with more passion, commitment and heart than the men's team - Rooney et al can learn a lot from what the women's team achieved.

I agree. A pleasant surprise to see how good they are. Not only excellent individual players but they play as a team.

Wonder how long it'll be before their coach gets poached........

They did well and it was a horrible way to lose.

But!!

I'm sick of reading and hearing patronising comparisons to mens game about this women's World Cup about commitment and 'passion'. The men tried at the World Cup last year and played with 'passion' it's just a damn sight harder to progress at a men's World Cup. I also heard people saying it was refreshing to see 'no cheating and diving'...... Err have a look at England's penalty last night it was like local lass Steph Houghton (who's a very good player by the way) was shot by Jap Shiper the way she went down, glorious cheating that any Spanish or Italian male would be proud of.

The standard has gone through the roof with the top women's sides that have had money and professionalism brought to the table, but the keepers are still awful

Scored an own goal with 30 seconds to go to send the japs through.

Not just any own goal; this was an M&S own goal.

I agree the English blokes are NOW playing with 'commitment and passion' but for many years before that, they played like old grannies with slippers on. Commentators are just catching up with the reality, that's all.

But, I agree it's savage amusement listening to what commentators say about sport and sports people.

That is because they are playing in the exact same size goals as men, even though they are on average a lot shorter.

No it is because they are awful

Surely this aspect of the game is covered by the well-known Hamster Hypothesis of 2013, which explains the influence in energy terms of the back line on keeper performance, and vice versa?

Compo, you've led a sheltered life down there in Huntingdon.
Up here we've just endured a season where, for the most part ,the football was as crap as any I've ever seen - a season where nobody wanted the ball, where Ronnie was horrified that the players couldn't string five passes together in training, even against the proverbial dustbins, where the top scorer managed a whopping six goals - I don't think we've ever had a top scorer with as few as six goals. ( And no, that's not a criticism of Fenwick, more a reflection on the other useless buggers.) In the early part of the season, where we were frequently gifting goals to the opposition by passing straight to them in front of goal, sometimes passing from wide on the halfway line in order to achieve that, it's a wonder we weren't investigated for appearing to throw matches.
In 57 years of watching Pools I don't know much about football, but I know plenty about crap football, believe me.
There was some good stuff played at the Women's World Cup,stuff that we'd have been pleased to see at the Vic last year, including goals from distance, goals from narrow angles. Ok, some will say, "It was only against women keepers anyway," but they were good clean strikes nevertheless, clean shots that we rarely saw at Pools. By the way, how many male keepers would have saved either of the penalties in the England v Japan semi- final? In the semi-final - in the 28th minute if anyone's still got the recording - there was a brilliant bit of skill from the Japanese no.9. The ball was flighted up to her about a yard from the touchline wide on the right, 10 yards inside her own half. With one sublime touch she swept the ball past her marker, turned and ran at pace at the defence, leaving two defenders in her wake, Nothing came of it as another two defenders converged on her and she was crowded out. Again people will say," It was only against women," but even if it had been only against the dustbins, it was still sublime skill in a tight space. Certainly if pools had attempted practising that against the aggressive dustbins the injury list would have been a whole lot longer.
Last summer in the England v Sweden women's match played at the Vic, Jordan Nobbs gave a fair impression of little Brian up and down the right wing in the first half. She had a good touch, lots of energy, was tenacious - well, would you expect anything else from a daughter of Nobbsy? - and swung over some decent crosses. In the second half she stepped inside into centre midfield, tackled well and spread the ball out well. Even though the season of misery had yet to unfold I was left thinking I wish we had a male version of Jordan Nobbs.
Women's footy is crap? Well. maybe some of it is, just the same as some men's footy is, but what we saw in the semi-final wasn't on the same scale of craptitude as what we saw at Pools last season.
I haven't really got anything else to add, so I won't be replying to any disagreement, but anyone could always get in touch with the venerable Nobbsy to see what he thinks about women's footy.

Well said Mr Ritzik, I'll watch any footy regardless of the level. The women's game has come on loads in the last few years.

Their natural reaction is to drop to their knees at the sight of balls for some reason.

Absolute nightmare that you have spent so long writing such rubbish. Any northern league team would beat the womens world champions so I don't know why you would compare them to pools.

And a carthorse would beat Usain Bolt over 200 metres. I'm not sure I see your point.

Third place place off wasn't it?
The women's game has developed incredibly well but to compare it to the men's is pointless unless they play each other. It's like saying teams from years gone would beat today's team comfortably, there's no way of knowing as the game has changed so much.
I caught bits of one game and they weren't as bad as I expected, some good players and teams but I for one wouldn't make an effort to watch it again.

The Final is hardly shaping up to be a classic.

4-0 in 15 minutes.

It's incredible! 4th goal was great and with a Steve Harper-esque fall too.
