Not sure if it'll help Verbal, but my wife dug around a couple of years back and found a company called City Insurance

They have been the cheapest for us by far for the last couple of years

No idea if they are any good for young drivers though matey.

I'd avoid the cheaper ones personally. I'd suggest getting under your name and adding her as a named driver. I don't think it's been mentioned already. I did it this way under me ma's name for the first few years to keep price down then worked on the no claims years later on, seemed to work out a lot better.

Just use all of the comparison sites available and see what comes out on top. Some companies like aviva and direct line don't feature so check them separately.

The better premiums tend to be offered by those companies who fit telematics to the car that record how the driver drives. Poor driving = higher premium, decent driving = lower premiums. This is checked every few months I believe and the insurer decides whether more is due or not.

If you get a premium at between £800 to £1k, take it.

The value of the car has hardly any bearing on the premium. The engine size will though and I hope you didn't buy a Corsa as these have a poor reputation with young drivers.

If your daughter's name is on the log book and she is the main user, do NOT put the policy in your name. Insurers aren't stupid, they are well aware this goes off and most policies will be rated based on the youngest driver anyway, regardless of whether they are the policyholder or named driver. If it comes to light that she is the main user etc (eg at time of claiming) and the policy is in your name, depending on the insurer, it would not be unusual for them to void the policy. If they don't, they'll just sting you for a higher premium back dated to when the policy was incepted and may load the excess.

The one thing you DEFINITELY should do, is put yourself on as a named driver, this will DEFINITELY save money (unless your driving history is shite and littered with claims and convictions :) )

The other thing is, if the policy isn't in your daughter's name, she won't earn the bonus, you will and it can not be transferred. She will need to bite the bullet eventually and in theory, it should get cheaper year on year as bonus is built up.

Also, with a lot of providers, comprehensive offers a better deal than third party fire & theft believe it or not.

And then she's not insured. There's a duty of full disclosure for insurance contracts. You cannot make ANY misleading statement.

They rate on mileage and 8000 always gave the best premiums

Try Adrian Flux my daughter has been with them since passing her test, and definitely parents as named drivers on the policy

If you use a comparison site clear the cache and cookies on your browser before visiting any individual insurance sites.

Same works for flights, holidays etc.

there is no easy way round paying over the odds unfortunately and the value of car won't keep insurance down.

Just point out how much more careful they are required to be to get the no claims and experience and bring the price down quicker

Worst piece of advice I've ever heard !

In the industry this is called fronting and insurers watch for it. If you follow this advice you risk any claim being declined, and your policy being cancelled as null and void from it's inception, and also being classed as an insurance fraudster for the rest of your life, then see how cheap your premiums are

When my son passed his test a few years ago, he went with Bell. The advantage was it was a 10 month policy for which they gave a full years no claims, so he built up the no claims quicker. Putting parents on the policy as named drivers has always helped lower the premium as has been pointed out already.

Are you named after Homer when he starts shifting snow?

Sort of! I had a car with P LOW in the reg which one of the kids started calling Mr Plow after that episode.
That was the car I got a parking ticket for at the Bournemouth game in 2005, but the ticket person wrote the numbers down wrong (like 123 instead of 132), so didn't pay it, still got it somewhere!

That's just raised my spirits Mr Plow, I love it when parking nazis get it wrong.

They take pictures now unfortunately. I often wonder if some poor sod with the incorrect reg got hassled over it!
I checked the incorrect reg on the dvla site at the time and it was a different make, model and colour car to mine, so they might have twigged on they'd made a mistake and not tried to get them to pay up!
