As we still haven't heard about Austin, I wonder if he was back at training today?

I'd assume his contract expires tomorrow as per most football contracts in England. That being so, if we don't hear he's signed today it looks like he's gone.
I didn't expect him to sign on reduced terms to be a backup player as we've signed new players in all positions he can play.

Think that someone posted that he'd turned down the contract as it was the fourth year running that he'd been asked to take a cut in wages.

I see Stuart Parnaby has been invited in for pre season. Poor lad is wearing last season's training kit

Well he didn't get much wear out of it last year

I got his home shirt from last year, it definitely didn't smell of sweat.

Austin will struggle to find a club, his CV doesn't make a very good read, last two seasons with a club who.narrowly escaped relegation, 30 years old plus. I can agree you can't keep taking wage cuts but I doubt he will find a club to match his wages or maybe he is looking at a club nearer home as all his car sharing mates have gone.

i doubt he will go to gateshead as the issue is probably wages and having to travel with none of his yorkshire car sharing buddies

imagine he will either retire or sign for someone closer to barnsley etc

Ronnie was on Look North saying we've got rid of 9 players so that's the original 6, Franks, Flinders and Austin. I just don't see why we haven't said anything about it

Moore just confirmed a contract was offered but no response from Austin and the club have moved. All but confirmed he has gone.

Disappointing way for his time to end.

Never one of my favourites but, on his day, he was hard working and efficient.

Agree that it's a shame his Hartlepool career ended without the chance of a goodbye or thank you. Same with Flinders, Franks and Holden as they all did their best while here.
I'm sure he'll get another club, I hear Ross County are signing anyone who's played for us.

Assume he drives but if his wages have been reduced and all the players he car shared with have gone it's going to cost him a few bob to drive every day from Yorkshire to training on his own.

decent enough service, but last of the few players who have been consistent members of the decline over last few seasons.

good early couple of seasons but after that can't say he was good enough.

Just want to echo what Harteblue said there was always plenty of effort from Neil Austin and if these new signings can have the impact that Neil had when he arrived at Hartlepool then we're in for a good time.

I think as with a lot of player when the owners reduced the budget this coincided with low confidence and loss on form.

Good point to make and I agree with these two posts. I can't do much for your confidence getting a pay cut every couple of years. The club was on the decline in every respect under the previous owners.

He actually played well in the second half of the season after being staggering bad at times in the farcical first half. He was back to steady reliable Neil Austin, he was always fully committed even when he was playing poorly.

Good luck Neil.

Some oik on the other board was slagging Ozzie off earlier in the week and called him a Loid.

62 appearances for Darlo, 210 for Pools. By that logic Brian Honour is a Loid as well.

All the best Neil.

Wasn't this something like the fourth pay cut Ozzie was being told to take, a shame he left this way, sounds like he's gone awol. Ozzie served us well, certainly though had his day would expect him to join a side like Darlo. Whitby or go into coaching somewhere.

He's only 32 and I'd have thought will join another League club, conference at the very lowest.

Darlo or Whitby!!?!

His time at pools had come to an end.
But he left in a dignified manner praising the fans and wishing the club well for next season.

Good luck Aussie for the future sure you can play a part in helping Darlo back up the football pyramid somewere down the line.

Best of luck to him, left at the right time with his dignity intact and I'm sure will be remembered fondly.

It's a suame that a few more players over the years didn't bow out before they lost their edge.
