Struggled to get a game in a poor Tranmere team so hard to see how he's going to be any more effective at Pools. Like Tommy Miller, a very good player in his time but best years way behind him.

I'd feel quite uncomofortable if we didn't head into the new season without at least one 35 year old midfielder.

He's only 28.

Looking at the free transfer list, I'd be upset if we weren't going after at least one from Mikele Leighterwood, Jody Morris and Papa Boupa Diop.

I've already bought a shirt with Shefki Kuqi on the back in preparation for him signing.

Have you paraded it round the King John's yet with your old shirt in a carrier bag?

How many chances does a club need to sign Fabian brandy?

Just do it pools so I can shut up about him

I've still got the 95 Home shirt with Brandy on the back when we were first linked with him.

A top set piece taker would be nice. Been a while since we had one but don't think Koumas is Moore type of signing anyway.

Apart from when he signed him for Tranmere in 2013?

I agree though, at Pools he is getting players in their early to mid twenties in who aren't lacking in height. Koumas fails to meet either by a long shot.

The retirement home for the old and crippled ex stars is no more and long may it stay that way.

Hugh Robertson probably one of the better ones at free kicks.
How could anyone forget that goal v Luton when we won 4 3.

Definately Hugh. Strachan was fairly good and I remember a peach of a free kick from Gus Di Lella back in the day but that was only one, not sure if he scored any more.

Im more so talking about delivering a decent ball into the box from free kicks and corners rather than direct shots.

Dolan didnt seem bad mind.

Jimmy Shoulder took a great inswinging, accurate corner back in the seventies. We seemed to score half of our goals from his corners at the time - did we score any goals at all from corners last season?
One of the many things that has pissed me off about our retirement home for old lags has been their total craptitude with set pieces. Solano and Robbie Elliott came with a reputation for accurate set pieces, but they were utterly crap. OK, your legs go as you get older, but your set piece delivery shouldn't.
Back to the point, Hughie and Jimmy Shoulder for me.

Paul Smith was pretty decent from a dead ball. Nearly 15 years ago though.

I think with the kind of set piece you're talking about, Tree, the kick is always going to be a bit speculative as the taker has no idea what shenanigans will happen at the other end.
Iconic example: Strachan/Daly. I'm pretty sure Gavin didn't know Daly was going to come tearing in at just that position and height, but he did give the ball enough air to allow something like it to happen.

To be fair to Humphreys, his set pieces weren't the worst aspect of his game.

I remember Humphreys' corners being cleared by the first defender more often than not. But I would hazard a guess he'd of taken most of the corners Westwood scored from during his little goal scoring run so must have had some success.

I was thinking more about free kicks and throw-ins than corners. He beat the whole Wendy defence with one particular throw IIRC.
