Just found out today im getting made redundant in September, absolutely gutted to be honest. Got a couple questions what I asked today and wasnt given a straight answer back...can anyone help?

How do they work out how much redundancy money I am entitled to? confised

also..

Ive worked there for 9 year but was working on an agency for my first 2 year there ...will they take that into account and therefore give me less because I wasnt actually on the companys books during that time? confised confised

also..

anyone know any good jobs going??

First two years... almost certainly not. I say almost certainly because it depends on how generous your employer is. Legally your redundancy money is calculated from the day your contract of employment commences.

As for calculations, it depends on how old you are. After 9 years service I'm assuming your over 21 so it is one weeks pay for each FULL year of service. If your 9 years is actually 8 years and 364 days then its 8 weeks pay. Deduct the two that you were on the agency.

If you were under 22 when you started for them you will only get half a week's pay for those years. The other side is if you were over 41 for any of those years you get 1.5 weeks pay for those years. Finally, irrespective of how much you earn you won't get paid more than £310 for each week of service.

Remember these are only the statuatory figures, your employer obviously has the right to pay more but its very rare.

Hard luck Jools - the following link may be of help: http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/lif ... ndancy.htm

If it's of any comfort most people I know who have been made redundant go on to get better and more interesting jobs and being redundant is the spur they need to move on. Good luck.

personally between me and my missus we've had redundancy 4 times.
I'm sure the pay off is tax free, and also that during the 3 months notice period they have to give you paid time off to attend interviews etc
good luck with it.
