For those that have been following my posts, here is the latest update after last nights draw with Accrington.

A lot of people have been saying that a minimum of 51 points is what Pools need to just escape the drop, but for the last month or so, my chart has indicated that it would be much lower. With 3 games to go, it is indicating that 44 points will be needed. Whether this will be correct come the final day remains to be seen, but it looking very likely that whoever finishes 3rd bottom will do so with not much higher.

Pools have had 2 great chances to put daylight between the bottom 2 but have failed to do so and now it is going to be a struggle to keep out of the relegation places.

Matches remaining:

Carlisle
A - Burton
H - Plymouth
A - Stevenage
H - Pools

Pools
A - Luton
H - Exeter
A - Carlisle

Cheltenham
A - Northampton
H - Shrewsbury
A - Wimbledon

Tranmere
H - Oxford
A - Plymouth
H - Bury

It doesn't matter which way you try and predict the results of the teams around us, the simple fact remains is that Pools just need to win their 3 remaining games at the moment to survive. It may be possible that Carlisle could be safe before their match with Pools or both teams just need a point. But it is going to be one hell of a roller coaster ride over the next 3 matches! If Pools play like they did in the 1st half against Accrington, then it will be curtains but if they show the spirit and passion like they did in the 2nd, then it may be enough to see us survive.

All we can hope for is that we are still out of the bottom 2 come end of Saturday when I next do the update.

I think the most likely games that either Tranmere or Cheltenham to win are this Saturday do we could really do with picking up a result and Luton are still in pretty awful form as well. The problem we have seem to have is focusing to much on our league position instead of just beating what is put in front of us.

I can see both winning this weekend with us dropping to bottom. We absolutely have to beat Exeter which is no easy task because I reckon both the other two will lose that weekend. All down to the final day and we have the easiest task if we can do the work beforehand.
