For those of a certain age, which do you reckon would be the greatest achievment should Pools survive this season?

Cyril knowles should surely beat them both. 9 Pts at Xmas and finished comfortably away from the relegation place??

Moores home form is top drawer but away from home he needs to stop fucking about with team selection and formations. Stick to what's done the business the week before.

Can't remember the last time we won 3 consecutive home games (mad john??) so that's an achievement in itself

I'm not sure what Len Ashurst achievement you mean to be honest. As far as I can recall he was never in the position John Hughes or Ronnie Moore was in.

Len Ashurst 72-73 team that escaped Re-Election.

If Moore pulls this off, which I think he will, he will go up there with Len and Cyril.

Well ahead of both in my opinion, at least in terms of clearing up the mess created by others.

Knowles had a lot of good players at his disposal,Moore hasn't.

Len Ashurst pulled off a miracle. I remember the night at Feethams very well.

However he didn't have the behind the turmoil off the field that Moore is having to deal with - so I would rate Ronnie's achievement as the greater, should he pull it off!

71-72 season we were in dire straits don't forget only 2 points for a win then. All southern media clammering for us to go out and being replaced by Hereford Utd. They did come in but we were saved. As Geoff said the night at feathams was fantastic a game I will never forget so at present for me I think Len's feat was brilliant.

Re-election must have been a shady business when you think about. Must have been a lot of brown paper envelopes and boxes of kippers circulating before the vote.

I'm not quite getting the point here. Wasn't it Ashurst who got us into the predicament in the first place?
I'd rather have the likes of Danny Wilson giving us a no-great-shakes-but-no-real-problems season than a manager who takes us through the scary tunnel.

Knowles turnaround was remarkable this is when he got the job by the way I was mascot for this game :laugh: ;

http://inthemadcrowd.co.uk/UI/Match.aspx?oid=3346

Even though we only had 9 points it was after only 18 games and Colchester only had 10 points, we only had finish second bottom as well compared to Moores situation;

http://inthemadcrowd.co.uk/UI/Match.aspx?oid=5621

Of six points adrift of second bottom with more games played and one more relegation spot. Plus we'd lost 8 league games in 9 taking one point.

There's still a lot of work to do but win on Saturday and everyone will really start to believe we can do it.
