Is it the alleged "no play against Swindon" clause in the Monkhouse transfer deal?
Do we actually sign a contract with the releasing club?

PS, yes it's about the Monkhouse no-play-against-Swindon clause.

Not sure about a clause in the contract, but I wouldnt be surprised if theres a 'gentlemans agreement' between DW & Sturrock.

Even odder when you consider Swindon weren't fussed on keeping him, in which case why not want him to play?

They've used it as an attempt to weaken and unsettle the opposition. Good idea if you ask me!

Don't get me wrong, I say 'fuck em' too but if its in the contract then there's not much we can do!

A strange request. Surely, as he's our player and not on loan, we can play him whenever we want. It would seem pretty arsey of Swindon to insist on this before dealing.

The only time I remember similar was when Andy Cole signed for Man Utd from the Mags with Keith Gillespie going the other way. I think the two clubs were due to meet a few days later and both managers agreed not to play the new players. I thought it was odd then, and I think it's odd now.

It has happened with 'Pools before.

It involved a player called Chris Simpkin. We had him on loan from Huddersfield Town and eventually signed him permanently.
At the time of the permanent signing we entered into a 'gentleman's agreement' with Huddersfield that we would not play him when the two clubs met later in the season.
Needless to say we broke the agreement and played him anyway. it didn't do us any good because we still lost the match.

i would have thought that only applies in loan deals and once you buy the player foook the other club and play him so the other team can kick themselves for letting him go
