I agree - I saw them at Hammersmith on Wednesday and they were superb.

Probably said about 50 words during the hour and a half on stage, but got through a lot of songs and sounded quality for every one of them.

Haway lads... rolfl

I was going to retort with 'Well, they're number one in the album charts at the moment' but after looking at the chart, I see that Avril Lavigne is number one :uhoh: hmm... Maybe she's the best around right now......

I can't think of many band at this moment who are better - Best of all time? No, definitely not. Best around at the moment? They've got to be up there.

Fountains of Wayne, now there's a great band, especialy for the summer. I haven't had them on for ages. I might have to change from my Summer Setlist to FoW for the journey home from work. Now where's me iPod got to......

Fountains of Wayne - the best band in the world!! Not that I'm easily swayed by public opinion.

The first ten or so songs on WIM are brilliant (probably to Halley's Waitress), a couple of hits and a few misses in the rest - great album overall though. I think I'd swing toward Utopia Parkway as my favourite album. their collection of B-Sides, Out of State Plates, that was released a couple of years back is a lot better than I expected 'I'll do the driving' is a brilliant track.

I've never seen them live - I know they're playing at the Astoria in a month and tickets are still available, hmmm..

Ooh, I've just realised that their new album was released a couple of weeks ago. HMV here I come!!

I've got all three on iTunes, it'll be the first tour I've missed in a good few years. Maybe they'll do Japan, I'll nip over there. The new albums not available here yet. I'll try and get it sent over. can't use iTunes store here either, no licence yet.....

Gah! The album isn't released over here for another three weeks - Some UK based stes said it was out. maybe it'll have to be down slightly less legitimate routes until then...

As far as I can tell they're only doing the FUJI Rock Festival in Japan.

Given that at various points in my life I've thought that Bush, Trash Can Sinatras and Supergrass were all "the best band in the world" I'll reserve judgement on Kings Of Leon for a bit. rolfl rolfl

As for Oasis, well....

The Trashcans. Awesome band! I used to cover a couple of their songs when I was in Mr Dog. Obscurity Knocks and How Can I Apply. I currently do a nice version of Hayfever when i've had a few and in the right company

I saw the kings of leon at plymouth the other week, very good band, good rocking stuff. but all this disdain for your audience thing, you know 20 words the whole night doesn't do it for me like.
good band but best in the world ! now then you heard the decemberists?

Now the Decemberists are another great band, I've seen them three times in the last couple of years, and every time they've blew me away - Colin Meloy, the lead singer has so much charisma, and a great sense of the dramatic

One extreme to the other, 50 words from the KoL and the last time I saw the Decemberists CM was orchestrating a re-enactment of the American Civil War in the middle of the crowd!!! I've got a few live recordings of his solo shows and they're superb, it's almost as if the songs get in the way of the chat!

What about Jonathan Richman? Him and his Modern Lovers takes me back to my RAF days, and that was 30 years ago!!
