An 80th-minute strike from Anthony Pilkington proved to be just a consolation for Stockport as Martin Allen’s MK Dons hung on to keep their feint automatic promotion hopes alive.

Goals from Clive Pratt and Keith Andrews gave the visitors the points, but they will need third-placed Swindon to lose both of their final games if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the play-offs.

Pratt struck in the 23rd-minute, finishing from eight yards after a neat Gary Smith cross, and Andrews doubled the lead 10 minutes after the interval when he glanced home a header from a Leon Knight cross.

Stockport were unlucky in the 69th minute when teenager Greg Tansey hit the crossbar with a curling free kick.
