I travel along Coronation Drive frequently and I'm getting really pissed off with that exit/entrance to the steelworks bridge 'recycling' place. The road itself is literally caked in mud and stones and really slippy when it rains as I found out. If you view the road coming towards it, one half is clean but where the wagons leave the place its a different colour. The pavements are caked in mud and the lamp posts too.... If this town is serious about tourism, how come we have eyesores like this?

the town in serious about tourism at he the marina only.

the headland which is one of the most historic places in modern BRITAIN - you know what i mean - may have had work started on it, but has far as i am aware you go to the museums on the marina and there are no historic headland leaflets with a map of whats what.

ferkin shocking - a simple leaflet could wholly revitalise trade on the headland.

You're spot on there. I recently took the wife and the in-laws over to the headland. Having never been before they were amazed how little effort is made on it. All you would need is a small museum and a couple of shops cafes etc and you would have somewhere much more scenic than the marina. But if you are wating for the Council to do something I think you will be in for a long wait!!!

could get a decent grant and convert manor house into the headland museum (fookin hell they already had a museum there and got the money to convert to offices)

anyone want to set a fund upconfised

i'm in with a tenner rolfl (on payday as well mind)

do you know they could probably save the money needed to fund it by turning 1/10 streetlights off and off course helping us see some stars at night and aiding pollution etc etc etc etc etc

Yeah but to do that they'd need 140 grand to set up a feasibility study on turning off street lights and the likely effect on the environment of night time darkness........................

Dead right, PLUS Brenda Road from the roundabout at Stadium to the Power Station. An absolute disgrace as it goes past Mr Stephensons delightfully named 'Seaton Meadows' landfill site. What an eyesore. There ain't much meadow left and the road is filthy every day.

Ghost ships next thread anyone?

Headland should just be torn from the ground and floated out to sea in my opinion.

its like Royston Vasey (CHECK SPELLING), it'll never have tourism because of some of the creatures from that part of town. (NOT ALL PEOPLE, BUT A GOOD FEW, the pubs look like the star wars bar)

the Headland is a fascinating area of town, and always will be. West Hartlepool exists purely because of the shipbuilding industry circa 150 years ago.

indeed - hartlepool was huge, west was small.

the expansion of the durham coalfields and then the introduction of the railways meant that the coal needed shipping and where better than the port of hartlepool. expansion began, but then by 1901 west took over population wise.

it's only a matter of time before one goes through a windscreen & causes a bad accident.whoever give them planning permission to build a recycling center there god only knows.

True Hartlepudlians?

Why do away fans call us Monkey Hangers then?

I can never recall HUFC ever playing in the ancient borough.

Infact, they have always played in the hallowed town of West Hartlepool.

That's where 'United' comes from I suppose. They've tarred us all with the same brush.

Mention the monkey hanging here and they just ask which sauce you had with it. Apparenty Sichuan is best with monkey, nice and spicy.......

the club were called what they were called only to keep the peace and the attract the much need support from hartlepool.

they played in west, and were referred to as clarence rd, west hartlepool, the offcies were in west, it was all backed by west hartlepool money, and i think the first hartlepool involvement board wise was mayor pailor in 40s - off top of me head. the board would have functions and invite mayor of west and as an afterthought a day or two later invite the mayor of original hartlepool.

kev, how would one cook monkey? - whats the preferred way? roast, stir fry? and with noodles or rice

the club had to involve both towns to maximise its fan base, which is why we will always be known as Pools. Could you imagine what poxy no-mark league that two separate football clubs would be playing in today if both towns had formed their own club?? It's a fact that without BOTH towns, Hartlepools United probably could not have been able to become a professional outfit. There can't be many football clubs who have a genuine historical reason for the club's nickname can there??

Same way as they cook everything else, chopped up in a wok, they rarely use ovens, most people haven't got one. Noodles tend to be a separate dish here, lunch sort of thing rather than a dinner addition. You might order rice with it though, bei mei fan.

Up in Xizang in the Hamalayan Shans, they do that thing where you cave it's head in live and eat it's brains warm.

Although I do believe it was West Hartlepool who brought the only meaningful trophy to the towns. didn't we win the FA Amateur cup at one stage - a while back admittedly.

old hpool = men = rugby=good at it
west = toffs = shitty rugby team, footy and cricket.
