Feck - I knew Nick and Paul - thats really bad. Knew them through Chris Rob and Eddie and the Waip club, can safely say Nick and Paul made me realise that music was more than listening and going to gigs - you could play it too. Nick had a cracking sly sense of humour.

Were they sometimes known as Bill and Ben?

Very sad news indeed. I knew them both well when they first moved to Hartlepool from Lanchester and we had some good times being generally daft.

On the WAIP, I used to bump into Chris Robinson regularly down here but haven't seen him for years now since I moved from North London to East London. The ahem "vocalist" from Shan Doom is a close neighbour and drinking partner of mine however, and occasionally posts on here.

The Toy Dolls!! I saw 'em at Retford Porterhouse in about '84. The singer was wearing an RAF uniform jacket and a kilt. My favourite was always 'Fisticuffs In Frederick Street.'

Jimmy Nail in a pink dress is my clearest memory of the Birds Nest Waip club. Was speaking to Ed a while back on what Waip stood for - other than a fantastic thing to say while you burp, obviously - and he admitted that it stood for feck all.

I really miss me Saturadys in the Causeway for pre match pints with Ed and then a race round to the Mill House stand.

Happy days.

Still in touch with Chris Larkin and a few others, but lost touch with Ian Stroughair (singer in Oscars Clergymen) years ago too.

Stroyer was last heard of teaching English in some part of Africa, after a lenghty spell in Bulgaria. Happily married last I heard and still finding bars with Sky on a Saturday afternoon

I'd love to see him again, what an odd-ball bloke he was. We were really good mates at one stage and spent a lot of time together 79-80-ish. He was a SERIOUS Pools fan, we had quite a few Pools-based songs about Vince Barker etc!

A mark of how big a Pools fan he was - I was genuinely amazed when he said he was going to Bulgaria - How the feck is he going to to get to home matches?

Away games with Stroyer were fecking riotous - I had to be reminded years later that I was actually at Brammel Lane for the mid-week away. Short-term memory, who needs it.

If it was the cup game, I went to that, living at Worksop at the time it was an easy one to get to, but I went with two Blades fans. We were just going into their cop on Shoreham Street and the Pools bus came round the corner rocking from side to side with pissed Poolies hurling themselves at the windows. Gazza, one of the Blades, said 'who the fucks THAT!!!'

The entire mob of them never stopped jumping up and down all game at the far end.

Same as PIEL, we were the daft lads. I remember Nick driving from Hart Lane, and crashing (on ice ) against a tree, I still have the scar. from going through the windscreen.
RIP mate
