Funny thing was, there was a documentary on the TV about this and the ex Tesco manager speaking on the subject said the aim was to have most checkouts like this with one supervisor covering eight tills, with a couple of mannned tills for those with difficulties .... goodbye checkout operators, up go profits .. and can you fill the fecking shelves as you enter the store, then stick a brush up your arse and sweep the floor as you walk round ... and then they can get rid of the cleaners too. It's WAR! rage

I usually use the self service ones in Billingham Tesco, they have 8 now as well, but I won't go into why I prefer them.

another tip for you mr billingham. if you are in the habit of purchasing expensive fruit or veg put them through as carrots or turnips at the self serve. saves you a fortune. putting peas through as pears is another favourite of mine.

That MAY amount to theft sctatchinghead

Didnt realise billingham p and chip fireball were running some underground till scamming circuit.

I don't know what you mean! I just prefer them because they're quicker, and you don't have to speak to any of the staff!!

ps: a 2 litre bottle of lemonade weighs exactly the same as a 2 litre bottle of cider.

Take your pick; theft or a Fraud Act offence.

Doesn't there have to be an intention ? if you scan it incorrectly by accident is it still theft or fraud?

You're referring to the dishonesty requirement (or the intention to make a gain in the Fraud Act); genuine mistakes are of course indicative of an honest intent. Some of these 'mistakes' wouldn't get past the thickest of magistrates!

Used these tills a couple of times and got "Call assistant" message both times to remove security tag. I only had assorted food stuff. So fook em I'll use the normal tills from now on and try to keep people in a job. Paying tax.

Maybe supermarkets are feeling the pinch and have to rake in a couple of extra billion. GREEDY TWATS.

They charge for them? I thought those sweets were there just to pick at while you wandered round the shop.

You can't blame them. They've been conditioned to believe paedophilia is the only crime that matters any more. Just make sure you don't stand behind a small child in the queue and you'll be OK.
