makes the top ten in the UK, bollocks is what I say cant believe none in Whitby (possibly the Magpie) got a look in.

Fish and Chips down south (well in Cambridge) are crap, FACT and they dont do scraps!

The Magpie is over rated and expensive.
There's one in Tynemouth which is really good but the name escapes me.......its near the castle.

They seem to have based that upon if you have a famous name or if you source cod from eco friendly stocks.

Everyone knows the Wetherby Whaler is the best chippy in the world.

The only decent chippie I've found south of Sheffield is in Leamington (Flaming Pig). And that's because they cook to northern recipies.

Whoever judged these is clearly a southerner.

I've been to Anstruther, who got second place - they are good but not better than Whitby or plenty of other chippies in Scotland.

The best I have ever seen/smelt/tasted was from Huntly in Aberdeenshire. I also had a superb pie from a bakers in Huntly too.

Tree, at times you can be correct, and probs taken the wrong way, maybe on a wind up.

I'm hoping your on a wind up here.

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain cell that fish and chips is different from different fish shops.

Away man give over.

fish & chips are shiite unless accompanied by salt & vinegar

they must also come served in a scabby old newspaper and NOT a tray or plate.

I agree, but it must be nearly 20 years since Fish & Chip shops used old newspapers to wrap them up in.

Scraps are just called batter in Seaham, fritters are called scallops and patties are called fritters.

And a big chip buttie is called a bad hand,

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

You should get there for about 11:45 when there is no queue, thats what we do when we go to Whitby, the timing is ideal because by the time the food comes out it is just after 12 which is spot on for the littleun

I got barred out of a fish and chip shop while at uni for asking for scrpas on my chips, no we cant do them for health and saftey. In my drunk state about 5 in the afternoon I kicked up a right stink and wouldnt leave till they put scraps on my chips.

The bloke said look mate we arnt putting them on your chips and your holding up the line, if I give you a fish will you fuck off.
