with York playing for a place back in the league this weekend it got me thinking would it be a good or bad thing for Pools if York get promoted? By that I mean ten years ago or so a half decent player a couple of hours commute from Pools had Darlo, Scarboro and York to choose from but now Pools are in the driving seat, does anyone else think this is a plus or an irrelevance?

I'll be cheering for York, another Northern team in the league and even though they won't be in our division they'll be one closer than at the moment and it's a cracking away day.

Plus if they go up then darlow don't get that cracking away day and their only derby is against Gateshead.

I guess its me working in the centre of York being a bit Pools slanted. walking in this morning the Press had as its headline City game worth £700k, got me thinking would the likes of Austin and Monkhouse type players see York as a better alternative?

taking away the money side of things, Pools are not looking to build anything here. The club is drifting and has poor leadership from top to bottom. York seems to have something going for it if they get up, so purely from a football point of view it would be more exciting for a player to go there.
A bit like Pools a few years ago!!!

How do you work this one out?
When was the last time you watched York city in action?
Purely from a football point of view Pools are an established division 1 side.
York are still none league at the moment and have been for how long?

if they were to get promoted, I would say they would be a strong candidate to do well and hence it would be an attractive proposition from a purely football context - simple really!!! If it's only better money a player wanted, then Pools would be an attractive proposition to any available players.
What's difficult to understand about that?
They may not even go up, but I created a scenario if they did, to reply to the original post.
What is your answer to the original post, as opposed to picking my message to bits?

Yes I would like York City to go up because its a good day out if we get to play them.

I dont agree with the comment about Pools not looking to build anything and 'drifting'.
We are a well run club and IOR continue to pump money in even though we struggle with gates of 3000.
Plus we are still in division 1.

I would love York to go up.
I love going to the place, even to reserve games when we have played them.

I agree with Parmo that it would show momentum from their point of view and would create that magic air of optimism that is lacking with us at the moment.

Too many of our old northern rivals of yesteryear have tumbled into non league and it would be nice to see one come back.

Personally, I've got an uncle who's an Oxford United fan so I'm hoping Oxford win the final.

But if York manage to pull it off, I'll be happy for them, because it will send out a message to all of those imbeciles and Neanderthals that threw missiles at them at Luton.

99% of players would pick a better money move over anything.

You can't disagree too much with that. I particularly liked this bit......

"Me playing for Cameroon was a natural and normal thing. I have no feeling for the France national team; it just doesn't exist. When people ask of my generation in France, 'Where are you from?', they will reply Morocco, Algeria, Cameroon or wherever. But what has amazed me in England is that when I ask the same question of people like Lennon and Defoe, they'll say: 'I'm English.' That's one of the things that I love about life here."

Would love to see York back in the football league. Not just coz theyre from the North, but coz theres too many non league teams in football league for my liking - Burton, Dag & Red, Morecambe etc. Want to see teams like York Luton and Oxford back in the football league. But not Darlo

Always a nice place to go Bootham Cresent. Got shat on by a seagull last time

York had only sold 8,000 tickets by COB on thursday  Not judging, but I always saw them as being similar in potential support size to us, if not bigger sctatchinghead
