There is a reason why players don't perform to the same standards for their country that they do for their clubs.

They play with the same players, in a similar formation, with similar tactics every single week. Therefore they are used to each others movements etc. They play a few games each year for their country, and it is very rare that the same side play together for a number of consecutive games.

At the end of the day, his goalscoring record can't be sniffed at. How many players can you think of who perform to the same high standards for their country that they do for their clubs?
