There are no cheap places in Edinburgh at the best of times, when the festival is on they double the price. You could stay on the outskirts but thats extortionate too. Alternatively you could try guest houses but they're all long since booked up and any available will be £1000 a night.

It would actually be cheaper to hire a motorhome at about £500 for the week and drive up in that.

Am only staying for two nights. There's 3 of us coming from different parts of the country so that's not really an option but thanks.

I think it was pde147 who recommended staying 20 minutes outside and getting the train in and out. Not sure where it was though. confised

I honestly think you'll find it impossible at this late stage. Your only option is camping.

Cue jokes....

That's fine with me and an option we're looking into.

Morton hall campsite is 10 to 15 minutes from Edinburgh centre by bus, around £10 to £15 by taxi & is a decent campsite too.
An added bonus is if youre driving you will get there before you hit any city traffic.

Me and our lass used to go every year, its ellish and you can do things on the cheap if you don't follow the crowds.

The best place we stopped was in halls of residence, at Queen Margarets College in Clermiston (I think). It was something like £19 per night bed and breakfast. There's a bus route very close, including the night buses.

If the festival is during Uni term holidays try there mate.

I had my retirement do in Edinburgh and got into the Uni.

Cost was £28 per night,(last May) for single room with en suite and help yourself breakfast included. And was plenty to pick from.

It was a taxi drive to the centre but if few you going it not to bad, cant remember the exact price but in the range of about £15 if my memory serves me right.
