There was a shoe shop in the Kings Road (Chelsea) called R Soles

It always made me laugh

My Mam was born Rebecca Soles. She suffered years of torment at St Joes Convent because of her name and in later years became agrophobic because of the mental stress of being laughed at every day. It got particularly serious after we all left home and she got 'empty nest syndrome' but didn't want to leave the house. It took her until well into her fifties before she could live relatively normally. When my Dad went and we had to get all the certificates out, it brought it all back.

It's easy to point and laugh but when you're just one of a crowd you don't know the damage you're doing.
