Had the most horrible riddle in an email today, I have spent about an our trying to do it an still dont know who owns the dam fish:

Who Owns The Fish?

There are five houses in a row and in five different colours.
In each house lives a person from a different country.
Each person drinks a certain drink, plays a certain sport and keeps a certain pet.
No two people drink the same drink, play the same sport, or keep the same pet.

The Brit lives in the red house
The Swede keeps dogs
The Dane drinks tea
The green house is on the left of the white house
The green house owner drinks coffee
The person who plays polo also rears birds
The owner of the yellow house plays hockey
The man living in the house right in the centre drinks milk
The Norwegian lives in the first house
The man who plays baseball lives next to the man who has cats
The man who has horses lives next to the one who plays hockey
The man who plays billiards drinks beer
The German plays football
The Norwegian lives next to the Blue house
The man who plays baseball has a neighbour who drinks water

So who owns the fish?

My first instinct was to say the woman, as it continually says person with regard to the houses and "the man who" etc but says the owner of the yellow house, so that leads me to believe its a women.

well there is the end to that game then well done clappp, realised it was all down to the red house brit and the milk, from there you just fill it in using logic.

Aparently Einstien said that 98% of the population would get it wrong so well done Mr I.

I don't care what the answer is but I want to know how you do it. Presumably, as it's Einstein, the method isn't just trial and error?

I understand the general principle.....this sort of thing was the staple of 11+ exams. But in this case it doesn't seem to be that straightforward, otherwise more than 2% of the population wouild be expected to get it right??
I suspect algebra is required?

Nope, your given everything you need. Just fill in the gaps.

It was probably a training requirement for some Pools players in days gone by. One of them would have driven home afterwards, as well.

When I read this thread title I couldn't help but sing "how much is the fish? how much is the chips? does the fish have chips? does the chips have fish?" from the song 'Buffalo' by Stump.
