Now I know that stunning British girl won a Gold Medal, and well done to her, but on t.v they went on to mention previous GB golds from former games. What was really noticable to me was that the British Mens Ice Hockey team won a gold in 1936.
How the hell did we manage that, in a sport in which, in my lifetime anyway, weve never been a world force. Thought it might have been that the big guns did'nt take part for whatever reason, but no we beat Canada and the U.S into silver and bronze. Obviously we never kicked on from that point.

Unless Billingham Ice Rink opened in 1935?

The Queen opened it in 1967. PC was stood outside waving her little Union Jack.
