Sir Nicholas Winterton has angrily denounced plans to reduce first-class travel by MPs - telling the BBC he needs "quiet" and privacy to work.

The veteran Tory MP said there was a "totally different type of people" in standard-class train carriages.

It's an inevitability, but it's neccesary to stop the present incumbents setting fire to the ashes. They're out of control.

Tickets booked today son. Half 2 from Darlo on the Friday.

Got a feeling me and you are going to enjoy ourselves round Soho on the Friday night.

This snobby throwback should be forced to relinquish his MP position. This is 2010 and the supposedly "other type of people" needs to have there voices heard and have this pathetic man removed from his position. This kind of ignorance may of been accepted years gone by, but certainly not today.

For me the "totally different type of people" statement is stopping just shy of saying travelling in standard class is highly inappropriate for me to be amongst wogs, paki's, peasants and other filth.

Get rid.

Funny how all these class related events have started appearing as the election looms. the Goverment aint gonna win on their record, so it's time to bring out the Pavlov's dog routine...... Doen't call me a Tory either, I'm a Stalinist.
P.S. I notice our Ewol like MP is at in his Mail column, highlighting Gordons interview with that Piers Moron bloke on the box.
It has to be election time.

Well , I would travel in the first class carriage everytime, of course i would. Trying to work on a train can be very difficult as there is usually a fair bit of noise, especially on the way back from London at 5:30pm onwards.

BUT I choose not to as i would have to pay for the fecker myself, as should he.

If it helps to keep the Tories out, it is.

That's probably why I will reluctantly vote for Alex Cunningham, replacing Frank Cook as Stockton North MP shortly.

Yes, that's as may be. I am tickled at the content and context of the thread being about class snobbery around 1st class travel. yet a certain Mp receives free 1st class tra vel from Grand Central yet still claims thousands in travel expenses

maybe labour mps travel 1st class in a common man stylee

I know he has been replaced by our local ward councillor, I didn't know he was standing as an independent.

That's the trouble Chip, there's not a fag paper between them and after the election then we'll see the true nature of the beast whoever gets in.
Some people fail to grasp that they're all twee middle class apparatchiks who'll do whatever they have to to climb up the greasy pole of politics, the party is irrelevant now.

Hartlepool went back to the backwater place when Mandelson resigned. So unless the town gets another high-profile parachute MP, it's gonna be the same old story. I hear Moss Boddy's doing nowt these days, and the local Labour group are keen, for some obscure reason, to get him an elected position.

Oh Jesus Christ no!

The bloke once tried to correct my mate's pronunciation of Keanu Reeves during the White House quiz by arguing that it was pronounced 'Canoe' and that 'I've checked it on the internet so I know'. God forbid he ever takes control of anything bigger than the quiz!

Anyway, I have mixed feelings on the upcoming election. I think the line between Labour and the Tories has never been more blurred, but I'd trust Gordon Brown much more than I'd trust the buffoonish duo of Cameron and Osborne. I have nightmares about those two getting into control. I see Osborne's claim that he has the unequivocal support of economists for his economic policies have taken a slight knock - 60 of the world's top economists have smacked him down today and rightly so. Even the city banks don't want anything to do with him. It's 'hold your nose and vote Labour' time I think.

From the tone of your posts, there'll be no question of you 'holding your nose' and voting Labour, you were gonna vote for it anyway weren't you ...?

No, I've never voted Labour in my nearly 6 years of being eligible to vote. Nice to know the world's most tedious man has been paying some attention to my posts though.

Well, obviously not pointing out the obvious because I've never once voted Labour. What part of that didn't you understand?

To me, it seems fair obvious that KK is taking his vote seriously and has weighed up his options and is (begrudingly) going to vote Labour. There's certainly no suggestion that he is an avid Labour supporter who would vote for them regardless so not sure where you've invented that from.

i never said he did, I said he'd be voting Labour, because he said he would be, begrudgingly or not. He was the one who took a fairly innocous tongue in cheek comment by me personally and resorted calling me tedious. Hardly my fault if people want to be offended. It is possible to read a post two ways y'know.
