Has just gone on a piss funny rant on the radio about that Woman refereeing the Coventry game last weekend.

He basically said women can't be refs because once a month during 'rag week' they lose the plot, his other 'legitimate' reason for a female not being a ref was that when they check a players studs his cock might be hanging out.

He then went on to say that all the women on Sky Sports News know nothing about football and women in general have no knowledge of football, the female commentator on Match of the Day proves that.

It brings up a talking point though, should we have female officials? My view is that they must have passed all the same exams as every other ref and gained as much experience. They can't have any less understanding of the game than some of the officials we see at our level, who like them have never played in the football league.

In the lower leagues the only way I think you'd get better refs would be if you could fast track recently retired pro's, I think it's something League One and Two players would take and a natural step, it‘s a guaranteed revenue stream after playing. It works with first class cricket umpires. After retiring make them do a season at local level, get them through the exams and then get them officiating at level they have recently played at. More respect from the players and a better understanding of the game. For me at minute their is no valid reason while a female ref should be any less respected than someone like lets say Scott Mathieson, they've all gone through the same process.

Always said bernie slavin was a tosser!! Never puts brain in gear before engaging mouth!

But totally agree that a woman ref has to follow the same path as the men do - no fast tracking -- we've had a female lino (Cheltenham and Bristol Rovers) -but like the males - she was poor - but the comments were very sexist! (but mainly funny)

Gender should not be the issue - knowing and applying the rules of the game should!

I have no problem with them becoming officials aslong as they pass the same exams and whatnot as the blokes. The problem in this country though is positive discrimination like the police where women and ethnic minorities have lower pass rates to improve the quota etc.

Its all feckin bollocks

being a female referee could be a good thing, i highly doubt that the players would be as keen to slag off female referees as they are to the male ones.

However, women tend to be more emotional. Can you imagine 40,000+ fans baying for her blood after a poor decision?

How would she react? Would she be more intimidated than a man would be?

Then theres the big question.... if a female is allowed to referee a mans match because she is just as capable as a male ref, then why shouldn't a woman player be allowed to play in a mens match if she is also capable?

We're on dodgy ground here.

I don't think they should be allowed........................unless they are fit as fook and are made to do it topless

I saw Bernie Slaven at the Morrissey gig at the town hall, he was dressed like a bloody 1950s teddy boy.

This is the man who said on air with the legends that Chris Hughton was the worst caretaker since Ian Huntly. Not a man who should be given any opportunity to share his thoughts with other humans.

I do think he is right regarding females on football shows.
The chick off the championship does my foooking head in.
And don't get me started on Yappy Yorath.
Just because her old man was a shit welsh footballer.
Same goes for the Dalglish chick but at least her old man could play a bit.
Mind, that Helen Chamberlain looks dirty as foook :)

To be fair the refs we get at the Vic seem as if they are on rag week. Bloody awful pains.
