Firstly i thought first half despite leading 2-0, we were very poor. Oldham the only ones trying to play football. But hey its the score that matters at the moment. Second half we seemed to be in control and seeing game out nicely. Then Hartley gave a foul away (it was a foul but their player rolled about like he was snipered) and managed to avoid getting booked. Then a few minutes later Hartley again fouled him (less of a foul this time but there guy again rolled about and screamed like the little fag that he was, the ginger little twat) and got booked. Then Hartley decides to run straight up to him, square up to him and shove his face into his. Now I can understand he was annoyed and I wish someoen twatted him but Hartley should be fined for this. Im not quite sure what he hoped to achieve and it very nearly cost us the game.

They then score a few minutes later from a free kick which was never a foul and then were under severe pressure for rest of game. A few good saves from Flinders kept us in it.

Mcsweeney came on as sub and then got subbed off and sulked straight down the tunnel. Am guessing Bjornnson took a knock as he collected his jacket and then went to changing rooms?

Cherel started very poorly but got better as game wore on.

Oh and Mcsweeny handled in the box and referee gave it as a free kick.

3 points and thats all that matters.

It was a massive win and I am very pleased with life this evening

The game did however highlight how much we need the central midfield problem sorting. Humps and Sweeney might as well have not been on the pitch. Aside from the assist for Jones' goal they contributed nothing between them. Without an effective central midfield pairing it is impossible to maintain possession for any significant length of time and it showed today. Hopefully this problem will be sorted soon.

I thought Cherel did very well on his home debut.

Come on Pools.

One of the first things I remember today was a missed tackle on the edge of the penalty area, that Oldham didn't make the most of, and a completely missed header when he was the first player to a Oldham corner. But I would certainly agree with the consensus of opinion that overall he had a fine game.

massive 3 points, could not be happier.

superb save from flinders late on capped an excellent day for him. thought cherel was excellent, and ben clark even better.

agree hartley wants fining, but fat teletubby gregan must have said or done something. refereee was shocking all game, completely out of his depth to the extent the 2 linesman were to all intent and purpose in charge and gave all the major decisions.

didnt think i would see a worse side than oldham all season after our 3-0 win at boundary park. today if anything they were even worse. they must have the 2 worst centre halves in the history of this division and the full backs were little better. oh and thank fook we signed flinders and not dean brill cos he is shan as fook.

horrible conditions, not much of a spectacle, but 3 huge points in the bag. feeling much, much better about things.

Carl Boyleson and S*** refereeing go together, simple as that , the bloke is in my top 2 of all time bad referee's

That's the problem - they don't sufficiently support the strikers (with the number of long balls we're playing, they need to be there for 2nd balls) and they don't do much defensively either. The centre of midfield is far too ineffective and it messes up our whole balance.

He started slowely because his first 4 involvements were a missed header, a missed sliding tackle, a misplaced header and a misplaced pass. If you can get hold of a copy of the game i will happily bet you any amount of money under the sun about this. After the rocky start he did very well.

Also even Westy told him he was over his poor start and to keep it up.

You're f*** mental.

He's an idiot Phil, best to ignore him. Cherel looked like a player who was starting his first English league game; nervous but overall very competent. I was pleased for him.

As i said, he played very well after his nervous/shaky start.

for a bloke playing his first ever Professional match , at 27 yr old, i thought he played very well. He looked a little nervous at the start but soon grew into the role and grew in confidence.

Our 'reserve' centre back pairing didn't do too badly at all.

No way. Liddle and Collins will be back at centre half as quickly as possible. As much as I'd like to see Cherel do well, Turner will never drop our captain and best centre defender (yes, Liddle) this season unless they totally fuck up. I'm starting to believe it isn't actually a holding centre midfielder we want but an attacking midfielder; who really plays this role? Definitely not Sweeney.

You guys can argue about anything at all.

Everyone seems to be saying that Cherel started badly but played well by the end yet the thread gets abusive.

There is no need for it banghead

Tree doesnt seem to have an ulterior motive here, he said that he felt Cherel started badly but got into the game and played well overall. I couldnt make the game today but I see no reason for doubting his (or indeed the other people who expressed a similar opinion).

Hopefully Cherel will be a quick learner and the 'start' was down to nerves and him adjusting to the pace.

imo we dont have an effective attacking centrel midfielders or defensive midfielder. Too many players who are neither one or the other. Perhaps getting Gamble or someoen similar in will allow Sweeney/Jones to flourish and push forward with no worries about getting back?

Fair enough, let's leave it.

Can we have a pop at his "Oldham were the only ones trying to play football" garbage instead?

Like I said, I could not make the game so Im not sure if Tree is right or wrong when he says that.

Did we try and play football or did we resort to the high ball game?

Well said, man of the match in my opinion (not sure who got that), held the back together well, iit could have been a very different game without clarky at the back today

Did I miss something with Mcsweeny, anyone any idea's why the sub was subbed?
Did he do something wrong?
Did he do anything?

Handballed it, gave a corner away and generally looked like he wanted Oldham to get back into the game. I can only imgaine Turner took him off to save us.
