We didn't have him in our first play off season of 99/00 i know that for a fact.

He signed a few months into the 00/01 season as Turner wanted to add some steal into the midfield, and Southend couldnt afford him.

A bargain.

Some people argue that the decade doesn't start until the 1/1/2001 like.

I've only been going to Pools regularly since 2003, but in that time I'd have to pick Joel Porter.

if this had been a best signing in since ior took over i would have said strodder simply because he almost single handedly kept us up and kick started the good times.

But it isnt so it just HAS to be either porter or your bezzie

Joel Porter

Could of been Tommy Butler or Jack Ross had they been around longer than they were and not been as sulky as they were.....

Some good options but I'd go Tinkler too. Does he have a younger brother, as we could do with him this season

Watson, the man was a different class.
Porter in a close second, Dimi third.

Watson was pure fucking ing trouble and the residue is still there. I for one wish to god we had never heard of the bloke.

The best signing in the history of the world was Hartlepool signing Joel Porter. He had no business plying his trade in our division.

I don't know much about the inside of the club, I just know that when I turned up on Saturday afternoon's, watching Gordon Watson was like nothing else I've seen at Pools, aside from maybe Jan Ove.

i fully agree with that comment.

Watson could hit a ball from anywhere, volleys, tap ins, the lot, he could do it.

He just had that extra bit of class about him.

Him n williams would have got 30 each had he been fully fit that promotion season, watching them 2 playing off each other, especially against darlo, was amazing stuff.

I was never a huge Williams fan but i did like it when Cooper came in and got hold of him and started making him get stuck in more.

Would also have to say Joel, although would have been Strodder if it was this decade. Single handidly at times kept us in this division. Who actually signed him? I seem to remember he came in the day or the day before Turner took over? sctatchinghead

I don't think I have ever enjoyed a signing as much as Gabbiadinni, the fact it was totally totally unexpected, the way he did it to Darlo, the fact he was one of their biggest heroes, how good a player he was and how it increased the gap between us was sheer brilliance. You couldn't have written it any better.

Gordon Watson for me. Those were exciting times to watch Pools and you expected a hatful of goals every game. He could score from anywhere and often did. Just a shame we didn't have him for 10 years!

I know there have been longer serving players and ones who have been more infuential but he, for me was the best signing we ever made.

Either Tinkler, Porter or Humphreys. Too close to call on which one.

Anybody who thinks that Joel Porter is a clear winner PM me, I've got a backpack for you to wear that gets you free train rides, just pull the handle on the side when you see the ticket collector approaching...

Darren Clark for me. I think he was instrumental in making the attitude that got us there.

If we had a Darren Clark now, we wouldn't have a thing to worry about.

Humphries, Porter, Boyd, Watson, Strodder, Tinkler............... the only one we have really missed and to date never replaced is Tinkler and how we miss him or his like.

So as good as it is to have watched them all especially Watson, Porter and Strodder, Tinks stands out as the most irreplaceable and according to my no doubt flawed logic is the best signing of the decade. clappp
