Maybe it's just a knee-jerk to the lack of keeper over the previous two seasons, but I reckon Flinders is the man. Liddle and Collins have improved loads (probably due in part to him marshalling them well), but Flinders has been consistently good in my opinion.

Austin for me.

Flinders has been consistently good but I think Austin has put in more 'excellent' performances. I'd also put Liddle ahead of Flinders. Flinders on the whole has had little to do although that doesn't mean I don't think he has been seriously good.

Flinders is quality, top-notch in fact, but I prefer Austin to be magnificent as it winds Loids up.

I fully agree

Flinders has done very well, but a massive part of that has been the 4 people in front of him being so solid.

its bloody difficult to pick from Flinders, Austin, Collins or Liddle.

Liddle has been great although 1 or 2 mistakes have lead to goals. Austin has been fantastic as has Flinders, but for me my MOM has been Sam Collins.

After the slagging off he has got over the last 18 month, he has been a Captain and a half for me. Absolutely outstanding, the bloke just doesn't lose headers.

Although it probably should be given to the back 5 as a whole!

Would give it to Collins or Liddle myself mainly due to them being ever present where as Austin never featured for first 5 or 6 games??

I concur.

collins has certainly been the most improved player from last season. many fans ( this one included ) felt he was ready for the scrap heap, but he has been excellent. his marvellous headed goal-line clearance on saturday was overlooked by most on here, but it was a piece of superb defending.
Agree, maybe the trouble with Collins in the past has been a clash of roles with Nelson, where two similar players were competing for the same balls with neither sure of their exact role. With Nelsons departure, Collins is a different player, but to be fair, Nelson seemed as confused and hesitant as Collins when they played together.... managers eh?

Doesn't it make a change talking about a player of the year and no one has mentioned any forwards or midfielders just goes to show what a fantastic job the back 5 are doing and any defenders on the sidelines should be worried about trying to break into the first team..... oh and my player so far without doubt is Neil Austin with the others pushing him all the way. :)
