Watched some of the boxing at least Hayes tried to make a fight of it.. The russian was as effective as boydy though never seen land a decent shot on Hayes forthe full twelve rounds.. A man trading on his "reputation" sounds familiar as well.. but lets face it the "big" guy couldn't even knock over a 47 year old little guy last year so what did we really expect...

You can't really blame Haye for the way the fight went, it would have been just plain stupidity on his part if he tried to stand toe to toe with the Russian and trade punches. He went in with a game plan that worked for him, it's a shame that the big fella didn't seem to want to try and attack much

Haye fought brilliantly and very tactically. Plus seems like he broke his right hand in second round and had to reduce the amount of punches he threw because of it.

I thought it was like that film where Stan Laurel gets in the ring with a boxer and he just runs round the ring trying to avoid been hit, the only thing missing was the horse shoe in his glove. Glad i never paid for it, that would have been twice in a day i would have been ripped off for £14

I remember that fight, Macaranelli was billed as the next big thing (probably because he was mates with Calzaghe) and Haye just totally demolished him, was it inside 2 rounds as well

I hope that he now gets a fight with one of the Klitchcos that will be well worth watching

Hayes fought the fight the only way he could have, Valuev was a Frankenstein's monster with a punch that would have flattened just about any man alive. Hayes managed to stay out of the way whilst building up enough points to win most of the rounds.

I would also put my money on Hayes v a lot of the old timers too.

That's unfair. Holyfield had a stornger chin than Haye, and through more punches. Haye was ultra defencive, only Valuev was seemingly trying to go on the offence.

I've read in the Mirror now that Haye wants to defend his tiltle either at the O2 Arena...or at Millwall (he's a big fan apparantly)!!!

I didn't watch the fight, but it just goes to show what the fight was like if the British guy beat the Russian beast on points!

How exactly

Well, I don't think winning a fight on points is the most dramatic way to win a fight.

I mean granted: a win's a win, but if you want to beat the bloke that's world champion, you'd want to knock him out really in a bit of style.

I would leather Joe Bugner. The biggest man in the world with a heart of jelly and a chin of glass. His claim to fame was beating a very old and feeble Henry Cooper. Then he got pussy whipped and became a circus act.

Just because a fight goes the distance, doesn't mean it can't be a 'dramatic' encounter. Similarly a 0-0 in football isn't automatically a poor match. Having said that, I'm glad I didn't pay to see the Haye v Valuev fight on Saturday, but the 'puppet' impression by Valuev was worth watching.
